Android Central Question

When I download a file from a facebook group I can open it once, but then I can't find it anywhere. The only place where I can access word files downloaded this way is the word app/recent. There, each file has a description of its store location and these files are shown to be stored on the following path: data》user》0. From what I know this is a root access and therefore not accessible. PDFs in the other hand downloaded this way are not shown anywhere. I have checked Facebook permissions and it is allowed to the app access to the phone's storage. It is really frustrating. Any idea on how to solve this? Thanks in advance.

Welcome to Android Central! Use a file manager app and look through all of the user-accessible directories. If it's not in the /Download directory, then look in /Pictures (if you downloaded an image). You might have to dig even deeper in the /Android directory.

On your file manager, try searching "browser", it will show 2 folders with the same filename, mine is "com.vivo.browser", select with the latest date, and it will go to cache>office_folder. that's where i found my pdf file that i downloaded in facebook app. hope this helps.

This seems like a chronic problem, as this thread is open and has been frequently read for two years or so. As best I can determine, and quite astonishingly, the facebook app, and accessing your facebook account from a browser seem to work differently. I can't seem to find out where the facebook app squirrels away its saved files. However if you access fb through the web (i.e. with a browser), saved files are dutifully put away in your Download directory. You can then access them from File Manager or any of the other apps that work similarly using the file system.
[Sorry, I neglected to put config information in the original post. I can verify that this is true for Android running on my Samsung Tablet Galaxy S7+, and on my Samsung phone, Galaxy S10e both running Android Version 12, One UI version 4.1]

Welcome to Android Central! Unfortunately, it's not too astonishing if you're familiar with Facebook's history of wonky Android development. Their apps often have strange quirks or straight-up bugs.:-\
