That is just a shortcut you accidentally put on your home screen

I don't think so, it's in the weather widget.

I got that too this morning.. It might just be the widget telling you its the first of a new year I think

Yeah mine appeared too. On my Note 10.1 as well. And no, I didn't add it. It appeared automatically.

It's an event notification because it's a new year. Just un check it and it will disappear. It should be gone tomorrow on the 2nd of January

My GS3 sleeps in the bed and I make my girlfriend sleep on the couch

I had it too. Seems like we all should. Anyone who still has the stock weather app on the home screen should have it.

Darn! I'm using Nova Launcher with Beautiful Widgets... How will I ever remember that today is January 1st? ;)

I saw it, liked it, wish it was there all the time. I could tap it and it would take me to the calendar, very handy. Is there a way to keep it on there all the time without adding an event each day?

You could add your calendar app to your homescreen....would have the same effect. I don't think there is a way to do what you want with the stock weather app anyway.

I went to the settings in the weather widget and found that the dates will show up for the first of the year, your birthday, and your contacts' birthdays. You can also uncheck the ones you don't want.
