Where does all my memory go

I have a Samsung Galaxy S5 that I got about 4 or 5 months ago, I recently plugged the phone into my computer and I noticed that the device storage only has 527mb free of 10.5 Gb. I went through the folders and they all appeared empty. I went in and marked "Show hidden folders" and no change. My question is where is all my memory going? I have an SD card installed with my music on it and I am pretty on top of transfering my pictures over to my computer. Any help would be appreciated.

It could be your cache. Check and see if you can clear it as that may free up some space.

The system must take up large of the space, the caches when you search the internet and watch videos/images.

Those numbers look way off of what I see on mine under Settings-Storage.

I am in the same situation. Even with a 64GB SD card, it doesn't make a difference if you can't move all apps off the phone to the card.

To mitigate I routinely 1) Clear Cached Data (Settings>Storage>Cached Data) 2) Ensure all applicable apps are moved to the SD Card (Settings>Applications>Application Manager>SD Card 3) Look through your misc files and remove anything unnecessary (Settings>Storage>Misc Files)

Note that after you update an app, you will need to move it back to the SD card after it has been updated.
