Samsung S5 Active. I have been doing some file cleanup/downloading. Pictures, videos, downloads all out of phone. Yet when I look at storage space available says 8.35g used, 3.11g available. I can't find where that 8.35 is! few hundred MB but that's it.

Plus, on top of this i have a 64g card installed, yet i have never figured out how to use this. Thought phone would just use the space, yet does not.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Ok, I have no downloads, no pictures, no videos, no music on phone now.
Settings: 12.87gb used out of 16gb.
Available: 3.13gb
System Memory: 4.51gb
Used space: 7.88gb Under This Apps 7.87gb Google Drive being the highest at 1.3gb
Other: 387mb
Cached data: 107mb

I always thought Google Drive was a cloud based app? Is this just how much this app needs to operate or is there files stored on there?

I put a larger (64) Portable SD card in back in March due to storage space issues but dont believe anything has ever been stored on there. Just thought phone would use it when needed, idk?. Now, says SD card is corrupted? IDK how that happened.

If i format card, how do you get phone to store things on there?

It's possible that all that data in Google Drive is from files saved locally to made them available offline. If you open the side menu in Drive and select 'offline' you can see what's saved on your phone. You can select any file from that list and remove it from your phone and it will still be saved in the cloud.

About the SD card. I'm not familiar with your phone. See if these instructions from Samsung work for you.

Also, you can always use a third party file explorer to move/copy files on the card. Solid or Total Commander are quite popular.

Sorry, AC doesn't treat very well those links from Samsung and similar places. Copy the link and add the first 'w'.

Thank you for your reply. I am not sure how to select 'offline' IN the Drive App. I am not finding that feature. I did put phone into airplane mode and took a look again. initially shows 4 files, but when i look at them they state not available 'offline', so what gives? Not sure im understanding.

Found this YT vid. Was able to format my SD card and went to camera mode - settings - storage location, and changed to SD card. @ 3:30 mark on the YT link, man mentions being able to move apps to SD card. My phone does not seem to have this feature. Is there a way to do this? Samsung S5 Active.

Don't you get this option in Drive's side menu?
