Doesn't seem to be much going on in here lol that's either a good thing as they are so reliable or a bad thing suggesting there are very few about.

Agreed, they are not the cheapest tablets around but then nor are the Samsung notes but people flock to buy them. I wonder if maybe the Samsung brand is the new apple, people just buy them because they think they are the best? Shame really as many other brands offer equally as good an experience its just a shame they are all so expensive when they cost a tiny fraction to produce.
Working in the production and development industry I do understand profit making and also recovering development costs but when the newer version comes out of any successful brand that is not really any different, the development costs are minimal so there is no real justification for the hugely inflated prices. Shame, they would still make as much profit by cutting the sale price and selling more product and grabbing a larger slice of the pie.
Sony make some very good products, the tablet z for example, love mine, it actually works unlike my 2 nexus 10's that fell over sadly. So come on people, lower the prices so more can buy them and get into the game a bit more.

Good point about the Samsung costs. They probably are the new Apple.

I haven't had any problems whatsoever with my Tablet Z. And yeah, I agree, I don't think there are too many out in the wild. Most people just don't look to Sony for their mobile products.

I think part of that issue is Sony isn't prevalent as a mobile device in the U.S.

It is a great piece of hardware, I am surprised that in this forum lesser known and significantly lower spec machines appear on the opening list of tablets whereas ours is buried away. Most odd.
Maybe its for the best, means less people know about it so maybe it will hold value and become somewhat cult like unlike the Samsung's and so on that everyone else buys.
I bought mine in John lewis (UK retailer) who said they have now stopped selling them as everyone wants Samsung and apple, demand equals supply, so they don't really bother with much else, I can understand that but its a shame, it makes it harder for other brands to get a look in. I do wonder whether brands pay for exclusivity so only those willing to pay to display get displayed and sold?
Anyway, I am really enjoying my Z, I did love my nexus 10 but after having 2 units with faults I am glad to have one that works, it may not run KitKat, maybe it will maybe it won't but at least it runs lol. I have a nexus 4 as my phone which is a flippin good phone, I do tend to like the same brands though, tablet, phone etc etc, but I can't fault my 4 so find it hard to justify changing. I do have the smartwatch 2 as well, good device, perfect for my needs, saves me having to whip my phone out all the time and to be honest I miss half my notifications normally so this is handy.

I also own a Sony Tablet Z which I love. I have tried many, many other tablets, including Samsung and Apple, and I prefer the Sony Tablet Z, I would just like to have a bit more power with the sound (easily fixable with a Bluetooth speaker).

I also owned a Blackberry Playbook, which was so underestimated as it is a very good device with the best audio of all the devices I ever tried, too bad the developers did not get into the device and too bad blackberry did not convert it to BB10.

I have read that Kitkat is coming soon:

"Sony is in the process of Android updates with the manufacturer having rolled out Android 4.3 Jelly Bean onto some of its higher-end devices recently. Some of these devices, which include the Xperia Z, Xperia ZL, Xperia Tablet Z, Xperia Z Ultra and Xperia Z1 have been confirmed by Sony for Android 4.4 updates. The Japanese manufacturer; however, has not revealed any specific rollout dates."

I have read that it should be available by end of February!

I also found another forum group Xperia Tablet Z General - xda-developers , lots of the content is for developers, people that root their devices etc, but you can find interesting stuff about your device in there.

I personally keep my device stock, but not because I am against rooting, it is just because I am afraid of damaging my device as I am a bit of electronically challenged! I am just a good user.

Hope this helps.

I too had a playbook, fantastic hardware but like you say, it sadly lacked development.
I keep mine standard as I don't want a really expensive paper weight. I do hope they release KitKat for the Z, it runs very well on 4.3 but I think it would be awesome on 4.4, even more so if they don't fiddle with it first.

Personally they are two very capable devices, you will always get the apple fans and the android fans and a great many of them will argue which is better and not agree they are both great. I wish they both had a bit of both in them, iPads do what they do practically flawlessly, but are limited android tabs do what they do very well but they do different things. You can't expand an iPad but you can android and so on, I love my iPad as it does everything without a problem but.......if I want to put a movie on that I have on my hard drive, I can't at least not without hassle. My tablet Z is awesome, love it. It does feel a little toy like compared to the iPad 2 which I own but its very well built. So to be honest, what do you want to do with your tablet? If its to put your own media on easily get a Z if its just to browse the internet, email maybe watch some streamed media (Netflix, love film) then iPad is perfect but both are equally as good as each other but maybe for different reasons.
I do think the iOS is a more stable platform but android is becoming better and better. Its a shame there are few decent tablet optimised apps for android whereas apple have that fully taken care if. So its down to what you want it to do.
