I'm running the stock ICS: 4.0.1
I bought my GN from Bell straight up, but I'm using WIND mobile (Canada) as my provider?
I check my GN for system updates daily but never any updates?

Who should be pushing my update, is it Bell, WIND or Google?

This is not the LTE version.

Anyone know how updates are supposed to work for my phone model?

First of all, if you don't own the US verizon version, why are you posting in here? Mods, please move this thread. Second, if Canada's carriers are anything like verizon, google will send the update to verizon, who will add signal fixes and anything specifically carrier related, usually not much. Somebody correct me if i am wrong.

Yeah, I don't see Verizon anywhere, do you?

If Google pushes the updates to the carriers, then even if I'm not currently on the carrier I bought the phone from, would I still receive the updates from Bell?

Still confused.

.......... where does it say verizon ?????? he is in fact in the right forum hello.......

since no one has actually answered your question i'll attempt and anyone can correct me if i'm wrong. Anyways, as long a your not running a custom ROM i believe you should still recieve the update no matter what network you are on with the GSM galaxy nexus.

Ok good.

Any idea when? Does anyone in Canada have 4.0.3 running yet on their SGN?

I bought my phone on the 27th and I am still running 4.0.1 although I did have an update 15 mins or so after activating.

You're not the only one to have this problem. I'm still waiting for my updates (GSM/4.0.1/AT&T). But the phone works fine so I can wait.

Hes in the correct forum. Just because the phone isnt verizon doesnt mean it isnt a valid question. This is the GENERAL GN forums.

Your the one who got pwned.

Am with Bell.. running 4.01. I got my phone a few days ago. I did have an update that was pushed to my phone, but no idea who sent the update - Bell, or Samsung, or Google.

That being said, I downloaded an app that stated that my phone is not being updated by Google. After looking into the issue, it seems that Samsung is updating my phone. I recommend that you download the same app (sorry, i forgot the name and don't know Android well enough to figure out what it was) to figure out who is 'pushing' updates for your phone.

Am hoping some of the more experienced members can tell you the name of the app.

Cheers...

ps - do keep us updated

The app is call " GNOfficeialUpdate". It will tell you what product name of your device is and will it update by Google or not.

Hi! First time commenter, and new owner of the international GN.

Same question, stuck on 4.0.1, wonder if this is related to build? Read in some threads about how some builds were not getting updates from Google etc, but nothing conclusive. Either way, I'm on ITL41F

Let me know of any developments!

I checked, and mine is NOT being update directly by Google! Wtf?

Do you think this is grounds to exchange the phone on Amazon?

EDIT:
After some research, it appears that users can flash over the official Google firmware. Anyone know how?

I wouldn't think Amazon would take that as a reason for an exchange as its not a manufacturer defect or problem, just the updates are released by Samsung instead of Google

Pretty much you gotta unlock the bootloader and root the device:
How To Unlock Galaxy Nexus Bootloader (or you can wait a week or so, whenever Wug's Galaxy Nexus Root Toolkit releases for the GSM versions.)

Download the YAKJU Stock ROM Image from: Factory Images for Nexus Devices - Google Support for Nexus Phones and Flagship Devices - Google Code

Rename it to update.zip
Copy it to /cache of the internal storage
Power off the device, hold Volume Up & Down and Power to reboot into the bootloader
Select "recovery" then hit the power button
Once the warning triangle appears, hold the power button and hit volume up
Select "apply update from /sdcard" and choose the update.zip
Once the process is finished, simply choose "reboot system now"

*Note: Make sure you select the correct device ROM. Also remember when you unlock the bootloader it will wipe your device so make sure you backup your data. There is always a risk of bricking your phone especially if you haven't done it before. Good luck hope this helps
