Where is my internal storage?

My internal storage (galaxy s7 32gb) shows 27.98/32gb used. When I enter the internal storage folder, select all items and click "details", its shows 12.1gb total data. I have "show hidden files" enabled. Additionally, when I use a disk map utility program, the total storage being analyzed is only 12.1gb. I confirmed the disc map includes all the apps and app files, so why is almost 7gb unaccounted for?
