Where is my phone storage going?

[Android Central Question]

My phone constantly says I have low storage space and when I look I have about 15.9 GB out of 16 GB but I only have about 6 GB of stuff on my phone so where might the other storage be going?

Welcome to Android Central! Which phone? Keep in mind that around 5 GB is usually taken up by the OS. If it's a Samsung phone, there's often more space taken up by additional bloatware, so on some 16 GB phones, you start with only about 8 GB available to the user.
