Welcome to Android Central! When you connect via USB, do you see a USB icon in the status bar? If so, swipe down and tap it, then make sure MTP is selected.

If you don't see an icon, then does the phone charge at all? Some cables are designed only for charging, and other cables might be faulty when it comes to the data sync part. Try a different cable.
