Where on the SD card are traces of apps / programs, etc installed and stored.

I know that I can go through HBOOT / Recovery, and clear the Dalvik cache, partition cache and the other (can't remember), but are there other places.

I also use TiB, and I know that it puts stuff on the card in places, but unsure of which can safely be deleted after a time, once I'm happy with the ROM I have in place.

I've cleared and reinstalled ROMs, while clearing the cache before installing the ROM.

Wondering if there are other places that fragments and traces of removed apps are kept. Just want to make sure that when I think I'm getting rid of something, I'm really getting rid of 'everything' related to the particular deleted app.

Also, with the Root Explorer, why to some of the folders have the gold shield on them, and why can't they be accessed?

Thanks

None of the pre-described "wipes" will wipe anything on the SD card, except of course for "format SD card"...which you most likely DO NOT want to do.

Some apps do store files on the SD card, primary if it's a large amount of data, but for the most part, apps run in the phones' data partition, which is cleared when a factory reset is done. You can always go through and delete the SD card data for apps you no longer need/have if you need to, but I don't know any "automated" way to do that.

Titanium does store it's backups on the SD card (because it's a large amount of data). I wouldn't delete any of that unless you know you don't need that deleted data any more...instead, just control how much is actually stored by controlling the total number of backups for each app TiBU is allowed to keep (and I believe the default is 1 anyway).

The files with shields are system nessesary files and do not need to be messed with unless you are very sure what it is you want to accomplish and or delete/change

I just search the SDCard occasionally for programs I have uninstalled and delete the entire directory structure when I find them. Unless, I think I may reload it in the future. Because these files often hold configuration files. So, often, if you reinstall the program, it'll already be set up for you. But if I know I won't be reinstalling, I just delete them.
