Where's the best place for the charging port?

Ok all, chime in and give your opinions. From you previous phones up to the X(if you have one) where do you prefer the charging port

1 Top of phone
2 Bottom of phone
3 Left side of phone
4 Right side of phone

and why.

My G1 had it on the bottom and it drove me crazy when typing. Now my X has it on the left side and it is driving me crazy only because i bought the verizon case with the kick stand and i cannot charge it and use the kick stand at the same time.

The best is obviously the top of the right side. You never have the phone flipped that way because you can only type in portrait or left-landscape.

I had a Blackberry Curve, and I loved dropping into the cup holder. When I went to the Blackberry Tour, I used a dremmel to cut a big slot in the drivers side cupholder on my car. This slot was on the RIGHT side.

NOW, fast forward to the droid, and I've cut a nice slot on the LEFT side - which didn't really leave a lot of room to hold the phone in place, so it tends to slip out of the cup holder. Oh, and the holder is pretty useless for drinks.

My wife thinks I'm nuts when I attack the cup holder on a newer Mercedes Benz to hold on to my phone.

Doesn't matter. I've had one in every spot on my phone and it has never affected my usage.

I hear ya there. It's just another thing to get used to and adapt to No big deal to me either.

Don't really matter much to me. I do like how the x is more bottom than middle. I do find myself hitting the camera button when pluging it in.

IMO... coming from an Engineering perspective, there is no reason why a phone couldn't have TWO charging ports.

For the sake of argument... lets say we leave the factory charging port where it is for now, which would suit the car and home docking adapters just fine. However, not everyone wants or needs a car dock, but they still want to be able to charge the phone in the car... In addtion, some people like myself also want to charge the phone at work and use it at the same time. Now if you are a lefty like me... or want to txt someone, the A/c cord gets in the way... however if the secondary location was in the Back of the phone above where your hands would be in portrait or landscape mode, I think that would work out well.

This would also correct that problem of putting the phone in a cup holder in the car, or a desk caddy at work...

Bottoms the best spot for me the one on the Droid X is in a bad spot since I'm an amputee and only have my left hand.But so far love the Droid X.

Left side. It hangs down when typing in landscape. Less strain on the charging port. Also, when in a cradle your right hand can more logically hit the hard buttons if needed. Worst placement is the top. Can you imagine charging the phone in a cradle with it upside down?

Bottom for me!!!!!!

In my car they have a nice slot for a cellphone that I put the phone in upside down. Having it on the left or right sucks as it interferes with the gearshift (left side) or door that covers the area (right side).

So I have to now figure out if I need a left or right angle micro USB plug and put it in there.

And if you have a car charger you have this huge thing sticking out of the side of the phone and the weight of the always too short cord straining the socket.....

Give me bottom any day!!!!

For texting, internet, ect. maybe.. but I don't think I'd like talking on the phone with the charger connected to the top.

The left side placement on the DX is the one and only thing I really hate about it. It's really in the way when I'm trying to browse or read and charge at the same time, and there's always tension on the connector and the cable when holding it in portrait mode. Also a pain when I lay it on the tray of the car while driving. I would much prefer the connector to be on the bottom.
