Where's the exclusiveness?

I may be the only one feeling this way, but the way I see it is that the Motorola droid is slowing getting pushed to the back burner. Lets take a look at why I feel this way.

The Nexus One was released on January 5, 2010. The phone is sold via Google's website, at a price of $529 without a plan or contract, or a subsidized $179 when purchased with a T-Mobile two year contract.

Cheaper than the Motorola Droid when bought directly from the manufacturer, which is Google.

What the Nexus One included upon release:

- 1 GHz Qualcomm QSD 8250 Snapdragon ARM
- Google's Android 2.1 OS
- Multi-touch Capability: Browser, Gallery, Maps and Supported Apps
- Live Wallpapers
- Pre-loaded Applications
- 3-D Application Drawer & 5+ Home Screens
- Etc.

The Motorola Droid did not receive any of the above for some months. The 2.1 update started rolling out on March 30, 2010 and took roughly 2 weeks for everyone to receive the update, some chose to manually update caused by the refusal to wait any longer for the long awaited update.

Originally, On February 8, 2010, Motorola announced via Facebook that the Droid update would begin rolling out later that same week. Motorola was ready to update our phones yet Verizon and Motorola could not come to an agreement.

Finally 2.1 comes to the Motorola Droid, without the full 2.1 feature/experience.

The HTC Droid Incredible was released April 29, 2010. Full retail price of $529.99, again cheaper than the Moto Droid. The Incredible included the following upon release(That I know of):

- 1 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon
- Google's Android 2.1 OS
- Tons of Preloaded applications and over 40 preloaded widgets.
- It's own customization system and UI.
- FM Radio
- Virtual Voice Mail
- 5+ Home Screens.

Now, I'm not sure the exact features of the Incredible or Nexus One but it does not seem to me like there is any features that the Droid contains that one of those phones does not have.

Like I said from the start, It seems that the Droid is getting pushed to the back burner slowly.

The reason I have the droid over the incredible or nexus one or any other android phone: Appearance and I already paid $450 to get it because it was exclusive in both features and appearance, for a short month.

Please, can someone drop some knowledge on me and persuade me that my Moto Droid is not already getting pushed aside only barely being 6 months old.

Just gotta tell you, this is the world of smartphones.
Stuff gets outdated fast and I mean fast.
Shoot, that's the world of technology period. How many times do you buy a computer or tv and months our weeks later it's outdated?

Marketing, Don't worry about it
- Google's Android 2.1 OS
You HAVE 2.1
- Multi-touch Capability: Browser, Gallery, Maps and Supported Apps
Droid has MT
- Live Wallpapers
Droid has LWP
- Pre-loaded Applications
Has the SAME apps the N1 has
- 3-D Application Drawer & 5+ Home Screens
Gotta admit, they dropped the ball on this one, but the Droid can have it with Helix2
- Etc.

- FM Radio
Hasn't been activated
- Virtual Voice Mail
Do you mean visual?
- 5+ Home Screens.

You need to not worry, the Droid can do anything those devices can do. Plus the Droid has better battery life. Feel bad for the Eris users.

Have you looked are rooting and over clocking your phone?

I am currently running mine at 1.2GHz
I have 7 screens
3-D Application Drawer
I can use my Droid as a Wifi Hotspot
Visual voicemail - Try Google Voice

As always with technology people tend to look at whats new. Do not discount your Droid just yet. It is the best Android phone out there IMHO. It does what the Nexus1 and the Incredible do PLUS it has a full keyboard.

Just my two cents.

I really don't see your argument, you are comparing the MOTOROLA Droid to the GOOGLE Nexus One and the BRAND NEW Incredible.

Of course the Droid is going to get 2.1 later than the N1 because Moto has to obtain the 2.1 OS from Google and apply it to the specific hardware. If you recall, when the Droid first came out (November-ish?) it was the FIRST and ONLY device running Android 2.0.

Naturally, as part of progression, the devices that come out LATER are going to have better specs. It seems like your only complaint here is the lack of a 3D App drawer and the amount of home screens. Both of these things have been addressed FOR FREE with Helix 2 or for a couple bucks via Clockwork's Launcher 2. NO ROOTING REQUIRED.

Where's the exclusiveness?
First of all, there's no such thing as exclusiveness with any mass produced product.

I may be the only one feeling this way, but the way I see it is that the Motorola droid is slowing getting pushed to the back burner.
Of course it is. No smartphone can remain king of the hill for long. If you're looking for a long term investment then smartphones are the wrong things to invest in. I don't care which device you buy, it will be pushed to the back burner. It has always been like that. It will always be like that.

The Motorola Droid did not receive any of the above for some months.
As stated above, Google releases the code to the OEM's and then they have to spend time adapting it to their devices, getting carrier approval, etc. If you want the latest OS releases immediately then you need to go with the N1 or any device released directly via Google.

Please, can someone drop some knowledge on me and persuade me that my Moto Droid is not already getting pushed aside only barely being 6 months old.
Only with misinformation or a fanboy rant. It might sound harsh but I'd suggest getting used to it and adjusting your expectations appropriately.

Among the Droid, Nexus One and Droid Incredible, the Droid has the following features that the others don't:

Wide screen aspect ratio (16x9) - 854x480
LCD display
Physical keyboard
Easily removed battery cover :)

But the other responses are right on target. The pace of technology advancement prevents any one device from being king of the hill for long. Besides, as long as YOUR phone has the features YOU want, what difference does it make if other phones also have those same features? For me, the solid feel of my Droid, its Gorilla glass screen, and the fact that its made by Motorola will keep me happy for a while. Only when it lacks truly useful features that are available in other phones, will I consider upgrading.

Really I think the Droid is aging well. It's still a top line phone on Verizon price hasn't dropped. And doesn't look like it will be replaced until the droid2 which should be here summer to fall. At the pace phones come out and technology. advances thats pretty good to me
and if your mad about 2.1 lay the blame on MOTO and Verizon
I'm not even sure the upcoming shadow will fully eclipse the Droid only for the lack of physical keyboard. It will probably out do the incredible

I think that the Droid has one advantage over the Incredible and the Evo - without Sense, it its a true Android build, and, in fact, I believe that Google still gives out Droids to developers when they go to developer events (along with Nexus Ones). The Droid is, right now, the only Android Eclair phone with keyboard in the US.

I still think that the Droid will have 2.2 and other upgrades available to it before the Incredible and other Sense phones going forward.

Yeah 2.1 will be nice but let's hope Verizon and MOTO don't drop the ball on this one. I want the n1 to get it so devs can rip it off and port it to the Droid

How about, a better screen and a physical keyboard. Unless the N1 or incredible can somehow evolve ( a la pokemon) then there is no way that ether can have these 2.
VZW keeps on promoting this phone. Froyo builds are being tested as we speak.

The Droid is not in the backburner. Its still cooking in the front, in low heat but cooking.

2.1 is nice? Since its already here? lol

He probably means 2.2

Also, on the "still relevant" side, google is handing out Droids & N1s during the I/O conference as a development phone. They obviously regard the Droid as a flagship phone still, and will probably be till the end of the summer or even into the fall before that's pushed out.

You're in the wrong area if you want to stay relevant. It was your choice to drop the cash you did to buy the Droid. Verizon, and phone manufacturers aren't going to stop developing new phones so you can stay current.

You have a Google experience phone. You will be guaranteed, as long as the device supports the features, to receive updates as soon as humanly possible (as allowed by the carrier and manufacturer).

Past that, you assume the risk of becoming non-relevant the second you buy your phone.

The Droid is, in my opinion, the best Android device you can buy. Sure, it doesn't have 512 MB of RAM, but it has an awesome GPU, a decent processor that can be overclocked, and a kick-ass screen. It's as relevant as you're going to be...

little off topic but is there news on 2.2 as far as the changes/advantages? or timeframe as to when its going to be made available to verizon? etc
