Whew! That was close. Gear S2 fell off while walking my dogs at night. "Find My Gear" to the rescue.
PSA: The "Find My Gear" applet in the Gear S2 3G (the model with the speaker) app on my Android phone did exactly what it says when my Gear S2 fell off my wrist while walking my dogs last night.
So, I'm taking my dogs for their customary walk last night. It's cool enough outside to need a coat, and my coat hits my wrist just below where the Gear S2 sits. After a "successful" walk, I get back home, start watching TV, and then go to check the time on the Gear S2 - which isn't on my wrist. Doh! Since I had a coat on, I couldn't tell that the Gear was gone.
When I figure out it's not anywhere inside, I decide I'll call the Gear from my phone and retrace my walk. But, before I do that, I check the Gear app on my phone (Note 4), and realize I'd forgotten about one of the choices in the app: "Find My Gear". So I select that, which requires the Location service to be active, and when I press the Big Green Magnifying Glass Icon, the app tells me that it's now telling the Gear S2 to make sounds and light the display.
After going back about 1/2 of my walk, I finally hear the Gear S2 beeping, in the grass next to one of my stops. The screws on 1 of the bands had worked loose. No damage to the Gear, and it's working perfectly.
The nice thing about the "Find My Gear" app, as opposed to calling the Gear from my phone, is that the Gear is audible for longer periods of time, and I don't have to repeatedly call it: It took about 5 minutes to walk back to where it had fallen, so you can imagine how many repeat phone calls I would have had to make if not for the app.
