Which Company Will Get Your Money?

Nothing is in the lineup that impresses me like my Thunderbolt. I love HTC. Not changing

Love my tbolt. LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE since day 1!

This is my 5th HTC smartphone, going back to the WinMo days. Non-htc phones lack the polish, whether you are actually using sense or not. Im currently running XdaBolt 2.1 , and I run exlauncher on top of it, which is much smoother and cleaner looking than sense. It also has the ICS theme with the icons, so it looks fly!

In having smartphones before, the battery complaint was a mute point. Maybe it used a little more juice running LTE, so if battery was more important than bandwith, set it to 3G and shut up. Problem solved.

In recent months, I did replace my stock tbolt battery with the stock rezound battery, and it's wonderful, big difference.

I do tech support for a living, and not one user with an HTC ever has a problem with exchange email, however, my users with motorola phones ALWAYS have an issue. It simply works sometimes, and doesnt work sometimes, no joke.

I'm in no rush to get another phone, contract or not. There's no successor phone with a kickstand either, so until that happens, I'm happy with the tbolt. Quadcore processors are fantastic, but dont say you need one to justify getting a new phone, just to text, surf, play angry birds/scrabble/homerun etc. The tbolt does everything well.

Plus having the ability to do simultaneous data/voice on 3G over cdma is a game changer. I know the rezound can do it, but it has no kickstand, or "leg to stand on".

For me it's a combination of factors,
pure specs of the phone
reputation of the manufacturer - I prefer HTC (There software may be off from time to time, but the hardware is always top notch) , Samsung is a second, Motorola locks their phone too much.
Reviews of the device, after my initial experience with the t-bolt and the asus prime ( which I returned )
The tbolt got a lot better through software updates from HTC and the rom community, and it's now the best smartphone I've owned. The software on release just wasn't ready for prime time.
I'm waiting for a few reviews and letting other users get the phone on launch day and be the guinea pigs, I want a good phone not interested in bragging rights.
I don't have an upgrade until November so I've got no idea what I'll go with, the lineup will be completely new by then.

samsungs seem to have gps and data signal issues. I had been recommending to people to get the galaxy nexus or the rezound, but then saw that the GN was having signal issues and such and that said to me that samsung still hasn't figured out that problem. HTC's biggest problem is the size of their phones and horrible battery life. even with the great droid incredible, it had horrible battery life issues.

I like HTC's and when I had my fascinate I used launcherpro and beautiful widgets to make it look like sense. but I don't even use the sense launcher anymore. so I'm no longer brand loyal. so when my contract is up in Dec of this year, I'll probably look at whatever phone is best at the time. oh, and has a good dev community for custom roms. my tbolt runs awesome thanks to them.

I agree about the gps issues with samsung, I got an SGS2 on AT&T as my work phone, and the gps takes a lot longer to lock than my thunderbolt. It's better than the Captivate I had before that it didn't work at all, but it's still not on the same level as HTC, the signal appears good so far much better than the old captivate, but can't really compare to the thunderbolt because it's kind of apples and oranges Verizon vs AT&T.

I think HTC spends all of their time getting the hardware working right, while samsung spends all of their line on design, light and thin and hardware quality takes a back seat.

HTC is one of the few manufactures that actually makes all of it's own phones, so they have more quality control.

I have been happy with my Tbolt. It's a little slow at times but other then that no problems. I will prob go with the Droid razor though.

I'm just curious what everyone is going to do when the contract is up on their Thunderbolt. Are you going to stick with HTC no matter what and buy their high end offering? Are you disappointed with HTC because of your experience with the Bolt and going to buy a phone from anyone other than HTC? Are you targeting a particular company (Samsung, LG, Casio, Motorola, etc.)? Or are you just looking for the clear-cut (in your opinion and I know all of us don't share the same opinion) best phone available regardless of which company produces it?

I myself am waiting on the Samsung Galaxy Note, even if I have to go to AT&T. I love my Thunderbolt, but its a little outdated.

Right now, I'm very content with my Bolt and wouldn't buy any of the current offerings even if I had an upgrade available, but I was having this conversation with a few friends and am interested in which direction everyone else will go when they upgrade.

Leave your comments below. Thanks everyone.

I think I did this wrong, but I am waiting for the Samsung Galaxy Note. I like my Thunderbolt and right now there is not a phone currently available that I would trade up to. But the Samsung Note. I would give that one a try.

I thought about getting a two year contract, but I figured that an extra $30 was worth it to me to go for the one year contract. On top of that, Verizon messed up my order, so I was able to get them to credit me $25, making it only a $5 difference for me. But those who bought it after the April 2011 cutoff are stuck on the 2 year contract.

Check your update date. I purchased my tbolt on launch day, asked for a 1 year contract, was told I got it. Later when I looked at my update dates, I find that I got the 2 year contract. They told me that the tbolt was not available for the 1 year. Since I signed, they wont do anything for me.

I am really starting to dislike carriers.

This being my first smart phone I do like it. The voice and data over 3 and 4g sold me. Up till now I have always swore by LG phones and Verizon carrier. I do like HTC now and would only switch if LG had something that could compare. Quad core is a must on the next phone and if my area ever gets 4g I guess I'll have to bag the voice and data over 3g. I guess it just depends on what each company has to offer.

Unless HTC comes out with a 5.3 inch display for me to consider I will be going for the Samsung Galaxy Journal when my contract is up in Oct. or Nov.

It's not as good as dog crap

That is a little harsh...LOLOL

I have had a Samsung i760 and an OMNIA and they where both Solid phones as far as the phone worked. My complaint was that they where WinMo phones and the lack of support for it was horrible...but that is a Microsoft thing and not Samsung.

On my OMNIA I ran a custom ROM by none other than ADRYNALYN (aka Team BAMF).

My son had a Samsung phone (clamshell) It went through the washing machine and dryer...bought a new battery and it worked perfectly. Same phone was left on my car and we went down a country road....fell off and bounced of course...someone found it...called me FROM the phone.....worked perfect...banged up, scratched up....but works...I still have the phone and if it was charged, would still fire up.

Unless HTC comes out with a 5.3 inch display for me to consider I will be going for the Samsung Galaxy Journal when my contract is up in Oct. or Nov.
That looks promising as my next phone, but since I can't upgrade until December...I am sure there will be ton of new phones or rumors of phone by then....I will have the pick of the crop!

Wherever the trend goes, I hope we have finally settled on micro USB for power and data connectors. Speaking of which, a slight threadjack - a colleague and I were flying out on a business trip about two weeks ago. We're in the airport gate area a little early, and we see a guy going around to folks asking something. He finally gets to us asking if he can borrow a power adapter to charge his phone. I ask what kind, he holds up an iPhone. "Sorry, all Androids (and Blackberries) here."

I agree...it would be nice for all the Mfg. to get together and agree upon something standard. At least it isn't as bad as it was a few years back with Moto had their own, LG had their own, Samsung had their own...I remember having a power strip at my house with 3 or 4 different chargers hooked up.

My only beef now is that my son's Samsung Intensity has the odd headphone jack input that I have to get an adapter for....arrrggghhhhh, drives me crazy

being my 2nd HTC phone (had the Eris first) I'm loving the tbolt, even though I tend to buy into the "negative" hype a bit too much. considering i'm stuck with my tbolt for another 17 months, i think the dual core and quad core processor thing is a bit overblown. seriously, why does your smartphone need to be THAT fast? unless you're downloading things nonstop, the Tbolt should be plenty fast for most people. the only thing I'm looking for in my next HTC phone is better battery life. I would buy the Tbolt again, same specs, if they offered it with better battery life and the most recent version of sense. I run a speedtest ever few days, and depending on my geographic location in KC, I'm still averaging 11 MBPS. seriously, how much faster do you want downloading to be? 4.5 is about the largest I want my screen as well...so again, the Tbolt is just about perfect. Unless HTC goes out of business, I will probably stick with them.

Quad core is a must on the next phone and if my area ever gets 4g I guess I'll have to bag the voice and data over 3g. I guess it just depends on what each company has to offer.
Another way to look at it is that soon (eventually? :) ) 4G will be everywhere and there will be no need for voice/data over 3G. Those of us who were around during the 3G rollout probably remember everyone complaining about 3G taking more battery than 1x. And, EVDO speeds not available at their house. Etc. I think VZW is doing very well with the 4G rollout. It won't be that much longer before no one will be interested in 3G. It'll be relegated to the realm of 1x :)

After the thunderbolt, I don't know if I would by another HTC. The battery life on them just isn't going to cut it on a normal day. When my contract is up i want to see what Motorola and Google does together but i also like what Sony is doing especially with the support that they are giving to the dev community.
