augment meaning "help" i was assuming meaning they will help but continue to use the AMOLED but help with the backorder by using LCD

patches has said, and he is a very reliable source, that hardware version 0002 is AMOLED and version 0003 is the new TFTLCD...not 100% on this would have to know from someone who has or is getting the LCD to be sure

I have yet to hear anyone who has actually gotten the TFT screen who can confirm that the hardware # has changed. I'm willing to bet there is no version difference as far as that goes. It's all hear say and speculation right now.

If i got a LCD on a new Incredible, I'd be pissed !!

The display on OLED is FAR superior and I wouldn't trade it's clarity for one second in a competition with the sun for who's brightest....

Heck, if you want a regular LCD screen, you might as well just get a Droid X(

You guys really don't see the diagonal trellis in the pixels where the green ones line up? I like good black levels but I don't know if I would trade a clean, true white for a clean, true black. After playing with the Incredible at the Verizon store, I just don't know if I would be happy with the AMOLED version. I spend a lot more time looking at white (web pages, emails, etc) than black personally, so a web page on something like the Droid 2 has amazing whites and nice smooth text and frankly looks better thanks to the LCD. I bet I would get used to the Incredible either way, but I would probably be happier if I got one of the LCD models. If anyone gets one that can't stand to have it, I will take it off your hands!

Is there any other way to tell? I've gotten 3 Incredibles (2 were broken), and I think this latest one is LCD. I believe that because I had my 2nd phone and 3rd phone together and I turned them both on at the same time. The white HTC startup screen came on, and there was a difference! The newer phone was ALOT brighter than the old. I didn't think to take a picture but the difference was pretty astonishing. The difference was so pronounced that it would make sense to me that this new one is LCD. I'd like to verify somehow though.

Well did you have the brightness level set lower on the old phone? If so, of course the new phone will be brighter..... :) And it's been posted in other forums that if they do ship LCD's, they won't be out until August or later. :)

I HAVE NOT READ THE ENTIRE THREAD BUT YOU HAVE A LIAR IN YOUR POLL.

CURRENTLY NO INCREDIBLES HAVE SHIPPED WITHOUT THE AMOLED SCREEN.

HTC HAS YET TO MANUFACTURE ANY. THEY WERE EXPLORING THE POSSIBILITY AT LAST NOTICE!!!!!

How can you tell if you have the AMOLED screen? EASY, if it is in your hands right now, it is AMOLED.

Easy enough?

LOL no, both phones were set to top brightness :p

Oh, and can the OP put another option in the poll for Retina Display? I think that's what my Dinc has!

Where's your source for this?

I just got my replacement incredible today 07/26/2010 and am wondering what I have. I called Verizon and they told me I have an AMOLED but I swear, my screen has better "under the sunlight" performance than my old incredible and when I check the battery usage, it shows a higher percentage than the previous phone (display usage on my last incredible would rarely go above 10%) which means this screen is sucking more power, indicative of a LCD not AMOLED...please, if you know how to tell which phones have which screen you would be God. I have no interest in LCD technology...it sucks, I'm all about AMOLED and that's why i chose the Incredible. I based a big part of my decision to buy the Incredible because of the AMOLED screen and if Verizon has changed that without my consent, then I want either my money back or the moto x...if im gonna have an LCD screen, might as well have the Moto x one.

You're hilarious. You based your phone decision on a screen technology that *you yourself can't tell apart from regular LCD*... And somehow "LCD sucks" even though it's difficult without a side-by-side comparison to even tell which is which? If you end up with a LCD version, since it sucks so much, I will buy it from you for $100 (in box, pls.)

Maybe he can't tell it apart because it isn't LCD !!
Did you think of that??

It's quite easy to see the difference next to a EVO or Droid X !!

No LCD for me either !!

a cut section from that article..... :

"However, HTC has not parted ways with Samsung altogether. Samsung will continue supplying AMOLED displays for a certain range of HTC smartphones, including Droid Incredible. Interestingly, Droid Incredible has been out of stock ever since it hit the market and those interested in the device are reportedly told to wait for weeks before they can expect to get their hands on it."

So he is surrounded by nothing but CRT devices, or perhaps an AM/FM radio? No LCD on his laptop or desktop, no LCD television? No friends with LCD based phones? Maybe I am showing my affluence, but I would be hard pressed to find time during the day in which an LCD was NOT within 25 feet of me for a quick comparison to verify that my handheld display was indeed superior.

I sent an e-mail to HTC this morning to ask if ANY Droid Incredible has been shipped with a Sony SLCD. Here is their response:

Dear PvilleComp,

We have introduced Super LCD display (SLCD) technology into a variety of HTC phones including the HTC Desire and global Nexus One later this summer. The announcement was not for the Droid Incredible, Droid Eris, or the EVO 4G, we do not have any information on these devices getting a new screen at this time. If you have any other questions or concerns please call at our HTC Technical Support Line, 1-866-449-8358. I’d like to invite you to take a survey at HTC Online Survey.
