David Eddings The Belgariad series did it for me more than any other fantasy series.

Can't believe I left out Tolkien. Christopher Paolini is also on my list.

I liked that one a lot, but Salem's Lot is my favorite for sentimental reasons.

SPOT ON WITH Eoin Colfer!
He may make a lot of "Children's" books but heck I love reading them... waiting out till this movie of his actually gets into its production phase.

Whatever happened to that movie they were supposed to make for the Artemis Fowl series?

Glad you asked, Its my favourite book and I was hoping for this. According to wikipedia it was in the works since 2001 and got put on hold, but I have seen a recent (well within 12 months) of the Author discussing whether it would occur.
Rumours were said that it was being debated whether is was going to be acted or anime, then between the two producing companies there was a debate - two board members walked out and formed their own company which is now in partnership with the other company (not the one they walked out from) wanting to do the Artemis Movie. I know the script has been finished and they bought the rights to the first few novels - suggesting more than 1 movie.
(ahh found where i got this from Artemis Fowl Movie | Artemis Fowl FanGathering)
Eoin said it just got put on hold and his not sure when it will be put in production as they contacted him again then really heard nothing since. He jokingly said it would be finalised 1 year after his death. I hope this movie goes through and they don't stuff it up!

On a side note how good was the ending of the last book, impressive way to kill it off.

Oh yeah I loved the last book, I couldn't put it down. I was sixteen at the time, and I was at my dad's house for the weekend, I just read that sucker till I was finished.

My friend loves the series so much his password for a while was Butler.
