Which keyboard

I like Swype but might switch back to Android. Swype drives me bonkers trying to enter a secure password and it remembers it! I don't want it to remember my passwords! Anyone can pick up my phone and see what I typed if they start with the right letters!

Is anyone having issues with Auto Capitalization and the Android Keyboard?
When I use the Android keyboard, I very often have to hit the "caps" button to capitalize the beginning of my sentences and it's very annoying.

Better Keyboard is my favorite. It is extremely fast and very accurate. Looks cool too.

I really enjoy swype except when my fingers stick to the screen and jump rather than deliver a smooth motion across the glass.

swypes auto predict is a joke tho. it forces you to choose a word even after typing it out compeletly. if the last word in your txt is "especially" and you type "espec" it will guess especially. but you have to choose it. if you don't and just hit send with it highlighted the word is left out entirely. on android and samsung keyboards hitting send with a word hightlighted chooses it

I am really bad with swype. I just stick to the Android keyboards. I accidentally switched to it one time when it asked me which input method I wanted to use. I usually used TW, but I switched to Android and I think I prefer it. Also the positioning of the ALT buttons are better in Android. For me anyways.

android's auto predict is better but it doesn't have any editing capabilities. by that i mean when using the samsung keyboard you can long press the number button to get arrows and select txt and such. the android keyboard has no such option

Wow, that tap on the word is tough. Or just hitting the space bar which completes the word. Losing that half-second ruins my day and doesn't make up for how quickly the rest of the message was composed.

Especially since you don't type on swype. You trace through the letters. Why would you type "espec"? You wouldn't. In fact, I just used a timer and was faster tracing the letters to spell the word, i.e. using swype the way it is supposed to be used, than I was typing each letter individually. On two runs each way.

What works for some doesn't work for others. Real reasons would be more interesting to learn about though.

For me its because my finger covers significant amount of the keyboard and I have to pause to peek under it to see where I'm going. Also I know how to spell words (close enough) but I don't know how to slide around accurately enough.

Part of this is because sliding fingers around is an unnatural thing to do on a keyboard. It will take me a while longer for that to be natural.

Also I have to spell much more of the word with swipe than I do with other keyboard.

The key to speed on a touch keyboard is to STOP typing as soon as your word shows up, and either tap it or hit space. But that pop-up selector in the middle of the display is slow and disconcerting, and requires more finger positioning before you can continue. It robs you of speed.

I use Swiftkey. It predicts English (it learns my phraseology), in addition to JUST simple spelling. You can type the major portions of sentences just by tapping the suggested word without ever touching a key.

Swype works for me. A bit of a (comfort) learning curve. I have found it to be learning my language (ie. cheaha, y'all, etc.). Works better for me since I removed my glass cover, I swype on glass. Gladto have the option. cheaha bill. Enjoy your comm.

I can't stand Swype. It's great in theory, but in practice and no matter how much I've used it, I can't get past the way it predicts my words and gets them wrong half the time. Yes, it's fast, but I use far too much slang, and way too many abbreviations in my every day typing to constantly need to fiddle with selecting the proper word.

Instead, I've been using the HTC keyboard, which I love because I was already accustomed to having more characters on long-press from my WinMo days, and it returns that functionality to my hands. The only thing I wish it had was multitouch because I'm constantly skipping over letters when typing too quickly, but it would seem that multitouch + long-press options would be difficult to reconcile.

i think i'm gong it give swype another chance. how many of you have the word prediction turned on for when you type?

the one reason i have been using samsung over any other keyboard is it has a 3x4 keypad layout that i like for one handed texting.

anyone else use this?

i also tried using Swype at first but i found it pretty annoying to target some characters because your finger will be in the way. and i never found it faster than the traditional 'pecking' method.

i'm using the Droid multi-touch kb for Eclair. looks sleek (i wish there was a colour setting), great features and the suggestion word bar at the top shows at least 6 options and is pretty smart



the Android kb is a close second fave
