Which maps does the stock GPS app use?

I went to try the GPS and it popped up with a free upgrade offer. So I did.

The "upgrade" uses TeleAtlas maps, which in general are not as good for the USA as MavTeq maps. In my area the TeleAtlas maps are full of errors. There's some roads on there that don't exist, connections that don't exist across railroad tracks and many "T" junctions where the straight through road has a kink in it on the TA maps. Looks like someone applied a curve smoothing algorithm and set the minimum angle wrong.

If the GPS app that came with it also uses TeleAtlas, I'll be hunting for an Android GPS map that uses NavTeq maps.

Have you tried Google's own Navigation app, which I think most users favor over the SprintNav app (which is really rebranded TeleNav)?

Google used to use TeleAtlas base maps (having switched to them from NavTeq in 2008). But now Google seems to be producing its own, which freed it to offer real-time navigation for free, without the licensing restraints of the map suppliers.
