I went to try the GPS and it popped up with a free upgrade offer. So I did.
The "upgrade" uses TeleAtlas maps, which in general are not as good for the USA as MavTeq maps. In my area the TeleAtlas maps are full of errors. There's some roads on there that don't exist, connections that don't exist across railroad tracks and many "T" junctions where the straight through road has a kink in it on the TA maps. Looks like someone applied a curve smoothing algorithm and set the minimum angle wrong.
If the GPS app that came with it also uses TeleAtlas, I'll be hunting for an Android GPS map that uses NavTeq maps.
