Does the "Car Dock" application use Google Maps or something else

Hello All -

I was poking around today after the Google Maps update and I fired up the "Car Dock" application that came with the Droid 2. I began to wonder if it uses itself as an overlay to Google Maps (meaning I never have to worry with it needing to be updated so long as I keep Google Maps up to date) or does it have it's own map database/servers/etc.

Does anyone know?

it uses google maps so no update is necessary.
