Which messaging app?

I asked this question in the VPN thread but figured this might be a better place:

I'm interested in switching to Verizon Messages + when traveling abroad in order to send and receive texts via wifi with Verizon data shut off. Does anybody know if a VPN will inhibit this strategy? I like to connect to hotel wifi via VPN for protection.

Thanks for any insight.

I generally have been fine with stock messenger but have been getting annoyed the SMS sent times are listed as the times you receive them. I had Textra on a prior phone and am considering going back. Does anybody know if you can still check both SMS sent and received time on S6 Lollipop via Textra? Thanks.

I use hangouts mostly because my dad had a Galaxy tracker, he doesn't own a phone, and we message each other when he's on WiFi of course. My only complaint with hangouts is that you can't send multiple picture in an MMS massage and its one by one... Other than that, I have no other team complaints.

Just switched to the new 4.0 hangouts. It's pretty solid

did you have issues with previous versions of hangouts rotating portrait pictures? I did and made it a no-go app. I still haven't had the 4.0 update hit my play store yet.

I don't send many pics through mms, but the ones I do send are in landscape so I've never really encountered this. I've heard it's been fixed though.

thanks for the reply. I just grabbed the 4.0 apk from android police and tried it out and so far looks like it has been fixed. I'll keep playing with it.

Does QKSMS allow for different tones for different people?

I don't think they have implemented different colours for different contacts, but I saw on reddit that they are going to add it.

I like Textra and paid for it and after using handcent for so long I think I'll stick to Textra. I don't see the need to try another one now that I like Textra.

Anyone using Handcent Next? Just wondering if ads ever appear in the main texting UI or just in the settings? I am going to giv QKsms a try as well! Looks nice and FREE!

Messenger app for me. I love having the desktop app on my computer AND having wi-fi text messages. I spend some time at a location with no service and imessage came in handy. Now that I made the switch to Android and have the messenger app I get ALL my text messages not just iMessages.

Messenger app has it's downfalls but the wifi and desktop capabilities outweigh the negatives for me.

I forget .... does chomp sms offer text over wifi.
