Which Music Player?

its all down to taste really.

It certainly is.

If it wasn't for style and a few tweaks, VLC was quite capable of doing the job. In my case, format support was the most important factor, but like everyone else, aesthetics can influence my choices, and in this case, they did.

I do use a few file types that are less than "normal" or "popular", such as audio-only 32 bit 48Khz 5.1 channel DTS tracks wich, typically carry the somewhat anonymous *.WAV extension, which I've changed to *.DTS for my convenience... Although DTS is now common, few Audio players actually support it, typically, one needs a video app to do it. Neutron supports it out of the box, which is, of course, quite a plus to me.

Still playing about with Poweramp and Playerpro, We really are spoilt for choice.

It can truly drive you crazy. I tried a couple, really liked PowerAmp, at a certain point...done. Stop. :) Same thing with MX Player Pro. After awhile, you can say you might find something that does some things better, but it will be 6 of 1 and half a dozen of another. The other other video player I've downloaded is therefore one that plays WMV, for the rare moments when I need a WMV player.

to many flat is the style of the day - not shiny and glossy designs.

poweramp gives you the choice to use third-party skins and i've found one which sort of blends in with the Sense style.

Which is skin is that? I love Shuttle+ design and feature wise but I could give Poweramp a try after seeing that skin.

its a paid skin, but there are 7 skins included in the download - all similar style but different in colour:

if you do not want to pay for the skin, there is an alternative one from the same dev which is similar and free (3 skins in different colours in this one):

The first link is for Dolphin Browser.

Thanks for the reply. I'll look for these skins and see if Poweramp suits my needs.

I decided....Poweramp rocks...Literally :) Don't know what happened to Next Music, I uninstalled and reinstalled and now it won't import any music at all....oh well, I have plenty of choices, Thanks everyone :)

My only critique of P-amp over the years is how it handles playlists. That problem, however, is often function of Android. P-amp has adjusted and improved, too. Over the years, though, there were odd anomalies. For example, P-amp has its own playlist creation format. There is no physical file, just part of p-amp. For awhile there, every time p-amp would issue an update, the P-amp native playlists would disappear!

I haven't noticed that happening of late, but for safety, P-amp does allow you to export the P-amp native playlist to a physical file which won't be touched. And that can be backed up as desired.

So, I convert / export any playlist p amp makes to a physical file even today. But there is one bug there, too.... Let's say I had a physical file playlist (you know, m3u, etc) containing some songs from albums I had deleted. So, of 10 entries, 7 were still valid and the other 3 songs no longer on my device. Using P-amp's "add" feature from folder view, I then attempted to add a new song to that playlist before opening it. P-amp would wipe out the whole, old playlist and only add the latest song I was trying to append. Puzzling. The simple workaround there: before you add new songs to any existing, physical playlist, open it first. P-amp is then "not surprised" by the fact some songs have been deleted and new adds won't destroy the viable part of the playlist.

My ultimate solution was not to use playlists much any more! I used to use them even for albums. That's clearly unnecessary as you can just play from Folders. So, I only have about 10 now, for some custom playlists. That's not a big deal. I used to have 1,000.

Thanks for that, I too don't really bother with playlists.
I used to have a playlist of my favorite songs. After I flashed a new ROM and my playlist was wiped, I didn't bother making a new one. I just play songs on random and realized that I have awesome music on my phone :)

Yes Random is a good way of playing your music, you can forget what you have sometimes or realise you like something all over again,.
