Which phone are you switching from and why?

Day one away from my Pre

So this is my first day with my Shift. There are things I'll miss about my pre and things I won't.

Things I'll miss:
Consistancy between apps
Size
1 mail program with 1 integrated inbox.
Quick and easy task switching
The charger

But hey, its day one. I'm sure there are solutions to these...

Things I won't miss:
Lack of customizing (outside of rooting)
Speed (or the lack thereof)
Crappy pdf support

Looking forward to learning the new device....

From the Palm Pre as well. I am also a long time Palm product consumer. My Palm phone days go back to the Treo 300 (Palm Pilots before that). My Treo Central account anniversary is 2004. Last Tuesday's HP/Palm event had some potential, but I'm tired of potential. Wait until Summer for new phone and even then still no 4G. I had to make the change.

I really like the form factor of the Pre and never had any real problems with my original unit, but I can't wait for them to add the missing components that should have been out of the box - not even voice dialing??? Perhaps I'll go back when Pre3 4g is released, but for now, I'm loving the features of Android OS; the form factor is okay - not a candy bar fan; the slide out keyboard is amazing.

I too was a loooong time palm user (check my sig) and I got fed up with the direction palm was heading. The removed so many features that made palm great and then to add insult to injury they made the pre with the cheapest hardware around. I would have been ok with the hardware and the software "rough around the edges" feel and use had they stayed true to their roots and kept the awesome features that came with being a palm user. my freshman and sophomore years in college I use my old palm pilot as my main computer because I could have a full keyboard and device in my pocket as opposed to carrying my really heavy laptop around. I was able to do everything I needed on my palm products until they went the way of the pre, then it was all downhill from there. At first I loved webos, but shortly realized it was missing too much for me to stick with the platform and then the snowball effect of everything else that went wrong pushed me to android. Im almost to the point of never looking back...

Intercept, I must say this phone is everything and more so far. Resolution is so much clearer, graphics better, faster.. damn have I been missing out.

Coming from Pre. I, too, am a long time Palm brand user (from PDA days).

With my new Shift, I am looking forward to some nice support, good hardware, and features that should be on any phone out of the box. Did a side-by-side with my Pre and my friend's Shift. Found that for me, the Shift is a good replacement.

Palm Pre- too.... :( love the webos, but...

This evo shift feels awesome! i'm overloaded with the number of apps and all that can be done :). Will take getting used to but look forward to it. Wish HP and WebOs the best and i'll keep any open on the Precentral site i'm sure...

Check the signature for the full history...

Wanted a smaller device, but with 4G and a killer keyboard. Shift covered all the bases...

Bigger isn't always better... ;-)

Rumor 2 to EVO Shift 4G

I had what is commonly known as a teenage girls phone for a while (the Rumor 2)
A dead give away to determining if you have a teenage girl's phone is that the name of the phone is followed by an exclamation point.
Rumor2 = phone
Rumor2! = Teenage girl's phone

In all seriousness though I was just waiting for a Droid phone with a physical Qwerty, since my fingers are, in fact, larger than a 5 year olds..

Now that I have it, there are so many sweet features (especially as a base of comparison to what I had before).. but here's the top list..

1) VM playing as sound files without having to make a call
2) Easier and faster to take and send embarassing blackmail photos
3) Active sync to Gmail acct
4) two words : Hungry Shark

As for the bad, just minor little gripes that I am sure will be nixed in future software updates

1) Stock Text Msg app scrolls all by itself mid text (HandCent saves)
2) Would like to see sorting option in the Droid Market (Sort by popularity, price, downloads, ratings, etc.
3) My old stone age phone could go a week without needing a charge, the Evo.. not so much

Another Pre to Shift convert.

The lack of (good) apps was pretty awful. Though I will miss those cards oh so very much...

Sorry RIM. Gotta leave ya.

About 10 months ago, I upgraded my BB Curve 8330 to the just-released Bold 9650: faster, more features, more uses...right. Well, I'm now on the third one; the first two having to be replaced due to various tech problems. Well, I should have waited a couple of weeks for Sprint to release the EVO 4G, which was the only other device I was considering at the time. As it turned out, the first 9650 waited until 10 days after my 30-day return expired to fail, and I was unable to exchange it for the EVO. Pissed off, I had to accept another 9650. Well, I learned my lesson. EVO Shift 4G, here I come (second choice is the Epic 4G)! I'll give up the front-facing camera for the physical keyboard, which is a must-have for my old digits. Thank you HTC!

my phone history...

After a few years of huge basic cell phones and some horrible time spent using Nextel...I had a HTC windows mobile phone (sigh never will i ever get a windows mobile phone ever agian! HTC makes good phones but windows mobile is about as useless as the regular windows os. I'm a mac user converted from many years spent on the dark side (windows)... >> LG Envy (the original green bar shaped phone) >> LG Voyager >> BB 8330 >> HTC Eris Droid (great phone but virtual keyboards are horrible for my fat fingers) >> Samsung Moment >> and now, the HTC Evo Shift 4g.

I'm excited about the quality of HTC phones. I love the real keyboard. I have downloaded "keyboard from android 2.3+" by steven lin it costs $.99 but it makes the virtual keyboard so much better to use. It even has arrow keys...what a awesome feature for a virtual keyboard! I totally love the 5.0mp camera with flash. I just never know when the camera and camcorder may be needed. Oh, and the HD camcorder not too shabby. I have noticed at times the HD video playback on the phone is delayed and not in sync with the sound. That was only twice. How can I forget?! The battery life is a little better on my htc evo shift 4g. I can go a day with heavy over all usage now. But I do keep my new baby connected to a charger often. She's my home and mobile phone so...no battery juice is not an option for me.

I'm interested to see how 4g will deplete battery life, alas down south in Florida there is not 4g yet.

I switched from tmobile motorola cliq, to sprint htc evo shift! i love this phone, so happy i switched
