Which phone costing more than $479 but less than $600 would out-do the oneplus 5?

My OnePlus One is in its death throes and I need to replace it. I would like a phone that's quick/responsive with strong connectivity both cellular and wifi.
I will use it mostly for text and an occasional video viewer. A would prefer a little larger screen than my OPO. I am very interested in streaming music via Pandora or another greater quality source for music.

Not a lot of interest in the camera, but a Snapdraggon 835 with its smaller production size sounds like longer battery life to me.
Also, looking for extended Android OS support.

Perhaps a Samsung Galaxy S8 when it goes on sale. You can routinely pick them up for around $500. Also try Swappa where you might be able to pick up a sealed unit for about that or less.

Or a Note 8. Buy a used iPhone 5 for 100USD, use that for the trade in, get 450USD discount, get a brand new Note 8 for about 500USD.

Why is everyone talking Sammys? Don't get me wrong, those are interesting strategies but I was hoping for a phone brand/model that will receive OS security updates for a few years, otherwise I would be thinking about a cheap phone (without the bloatware) that I would toss after two years.

Should I bite the bullet and get a used iPhone? I want that new phone hardware, latest OS version and improved battery life. I was gonna go "unofficial firmware" with my OPO but there's this horizontal dead zone on the screen (held portrait) about through the middle--dust I suppose. I've adapted with some work arounds for now. Now when I scroll up I slowly sweep from about the left bottom towards the right top. It seems to narrow that band of non-response and otherwise brings a smoother scroll.

You know...I should really see if that issue has a fix!

Because Sammys get security updates for up to 3 years. The S5 and Note 3 are still getting security updates.

You're not getting latest OS, AND improved performance and battery life without going flagship, and you didn't want a OP5 nor is willing to shell out the money for a flagship. In that situation, the Sammy deals are your best option.

Seriously, getting a Note 8 for 500 vs getting a mid range Moto for 400 something? The choice to make is pretty obvious, especially depending on whose deal you bite, you can get freebies like 256GB SD cards.
