Which ROM to start with?

I'm new to Android, got my G2X about 6 weeks ago now. Ready to delve into loading a custom ROM to hopefully help with some of the many issues that appear to be software related on this device. Though I'm new to Android I've been doing this sort of thing with my Palm Pre for 2 years prior to getting this phone, so I'm comfortable with the process and have done my homework on what to do.

I'm just looking for some suggestions on the best ROM to go with. What do you guys like about the ROM you've gone with? What ROMs work best with the G2X? Would you wait until the Gingerbread update is pushed OTA then do a custom ROM?

Thanks for your help!

Regards,
Robbie

I think with all indicators that we will get an OTA next week, I would wait for a custom ROM based off that.

No harm in flashing now and then flashing again. It's the nature of the beast with custom roms anyway.

That is the dilemma I am facing now too. New to android...only had device 2 days and am wondeirng if I should flash a custom rom to get rid of the bloatware on the phone. Plus I am not sure if I could get the OTA updates seeing my phone is not registering with the network. Come ON TMO get to it!!!!

If you are tired of waiting and want stock gingerbread there is a leaked version of 2.3.3 out there, basically identical to the official update your waiting for. If you are looking for more customization and functionality i suggest cyanogemnod 7. Ive tried about every rom out for this phone and cyanogenmod is the one I decided on. Have been running it for about a week now and no problems.

I do agree that CM7.1 is one of the best. I waited until a RC was available, and it's rock solid.

I agree with cm its been solid I had reboot issues with evil, ultimate didn't seem fully cooked, any LG based gb rom gave me random browser closures along with horrible GPS lock times. Honestly I'm happy with cm just need source and an update for the radio handoff times for edge-hspa and vise versa are way to slow along with weak signal

If you want stable and with all features, no missing A2DP and LG Camera, and no APN issues, I suggest Ultimate G2X. Has been rock solid for me. I tried CM7.1, AOSP by Faux, Bionic, EB and I keeping coming back to Ultimate.

I may not post blazing quadrant scores but my Smartphone remains smart as everything works.

I've had excellent results with both Eaglesblood 1.0.4 GB and also with Bionix2.
