Which security lock option?

I've searched the forum about the security features of the Nexus7. Perhaps I've missed them, but can't find much information (except about encryption, which I don't see as necessary for me).

The Nexus7 offers four other security lock features: Facelock, Pattern, PIN or password. I'm trying to decide which one to use. Can you please share which one you use, if any, and why or why not?

Facial recognition with blink detection enabled, with 4-digit PIN as backup. My Nexus never leaves the house, so it doesn't need to be TOO secure but I do like having it locked.

I don't use any security settings, I'm still using the factory set lock screen.
It's just me and my puppy here, so unless he's using it while I'm not home I don't need to secure it. lol

My Nexus 7 will not be leaving my home much. But when it does, I have a concern if I ever lose it. I have copies of a lot of personal documents online in Google Drive and SkyDrive. I don't use apps to access bank accounts via my tablet.

If I set up one of these security methods, can I ever undo it?. My guess is that the answer is yes but I'd rather be safe than sorry. I'd probably only enable one of the security methods when I go out or take a trip. Around home, I'm not concerned.

Hmmmm, I think my notebook probably needs a password too since I take it on trips a couple of times a year.

Actually if you know the right adb commands pattern lock is easily defeatable.

I read that too. The downside is it slows the whole thing down. I switched to a pin number for this reason.

I use a pin. I tried the facial recognition, but it didn't impress me when a friend, who looks nothing like me, was able to unlock it.

Or if you can see the fingerprint smudge of the pattern on the screen lol.

I rarely lock my Nexus 7, but when I do, I use face unlock with pattern as a backup.

I've read a couple of other threads where the Nexus totally locked and, because they had some type of password, it seemed like a very long, involved proceedure to get it up and running again. For me, I'd probably have to send it in for repair.

Does this frequently happen? It seems like a downside of using a PW, though I realize the benefits outweigh the negatives.

Maybe I missed something, but how can you wipe it (I'm assuming this means a factory reset) if you can't start the tablet because it's not accepting your password?

I do have my tablet set to Back up my date, and Automatic restore.

I don't think you need a password to get into the bootloader and wipe it clean with fastboot commands/recovery. I can always try it out and let you know though lol

Speaking of lol, almost every time I ask a question I see some words that are new to me. I have no idea wht "bootloader" means or "fastboot commands/recovery."

Someone was kind enough the other day to give me a link to a glossary, so I'll look up the words:

Bootloader: An internal mode on a phone that helps in the flashing of ROMs and other behind-the scenes actions
Fastboot: Another mode akin to the bootloader, from which you can manually flash low-level components onto a phone.

To me, clear as mud. They both reference phones; do they apply to tablets too?

Use Pattern. Tried Facelock. It has the cool factor, but it's slow and a pain -- IMO.

Thanks again, dmmarck. I started reading the guide the other day, and read a bit more today. I think the best route for me to take is to ask for help in these forums if I ever run into trouble. Hopefully that will not happen but, you never know. I've been pushing myself hard to learn to use the tablet so I'm on a bit of information overload and can only absorb very basic stuff at this time.

Yes, I like it very much and plan to watch several of them when time permits.

After watching your video I have two questions related to the accessories you use.

First, I didn't get the name of the folio you use. It looks nice.

Secondly, I just bought a stylus the other day, and really (!!!!) like using it. I've been using Simple Notepad but find it's now more difficult to write with a stylus. Things jump around and settings get changed even if you put your palm down on the tablet to a second. To avoid this, you have to hold the hand in a more awkward position than when one normally writes. Any suggestions, or is there a better app to writing and jotting down quick notes, on that allows an area for the palm?
