Do any of the Verizon Droids have a less breakable screen than others. My son is up for an upgrade in a couple of months and I'm probably going to get him a Droid. I've seen a lot of broken screens on an assortment of phones, so I'm wondering if any of the Verizon Droids might be made of a material that is more resistant to breaking/cracking. I'm not so worried about the different functionality between the phones (they all seem pretty awesome), or the potential for scratches, just screen breakages.

Thanks for your help/suggestions.

the original droid and droid x both use gorilla glass, which is pretty scratch-resistent. i would assume it would be a little more break-resistent as wel

I have the Incredible, and put a screen protector on it the moment I had it in my hands to prevent scratches. Depending on his age, you might want to get a case. May I suggest our accessories store?

As for functionality, all 3 Droid phones (lets exclude the now-dead Eris) are pretty comparable. You can read AC's reviews for each phone if you want the nitty and gritty : X, Incredible, Droid. Obviously, the X is the newest and most feature packed, but the Droid and Incredible are both great phones. I personally can vouch for the Droid Incredible, I love that phone. If he doesn't need the latest and greatest, you might want to consider prowling ebay or craigslist for a used Droid.... I hear they can be had for about $200 contract-free these days.

All the phones use a screen close to what you have on the windshield of your car. It wont scratch that easy, but will crack and break.

I thought I read somewhere that the Incredible was going to be getting some type of different screen, as the current one is what's causing all the back orders. Assuming my memory is correct, does anyone know anything about the new screen?

Currently, the Inc uses an AMOLED screen, the same one that is in the Nexus 1. Samsung simply can't produce enough (and what they do they keep for their own phones) so HTC had to start making Inc's with a LCD screen. Supposedly they are almost exactly the same to the human eye, but I haven't seen any professional comparisons yet.

I am sure we will make a post to compare the two once the LCD versions get out in the wild.
