I care...for the sake of 'why did you downgrade! I will never buy another Samsong!' outrage. Truth? Just like the IR blaster of days past, I barely used it. I can count with one hand the times I actually used that feature in the past year. I can see how a some people that don't have smart watches may miss the remote shutter button, but that's about all I can think of that was truly useful on a screen this size.

I don't use the air gestures, but I use the pen a lot! I would hate to lose that. I bought my Galaxy S22 Ultra for the pen and the storage along with a couple other things the regular one didn't have. I know I could have gone with a lesser model, but the pen was important to me to have.

Yeah, I have a smart watch, but it's not a Galaxy watch so that option is useless for me anyway. Don't get me wrong, my watch integrates with my Ultra just fine for what I need, but the Galaxy watch didn't have what I needed and the battery life was so sucky, it was useless for me. And the watch I have responds to my pen though I think it's not either supposed to or definitely not marketed as such so there's that.

It was a poor decision by Samsung, they didn't add anything to justify removing it , bigger battery? Radical design? Magnets for magsafe cases?

I am of the opinion of it's better to have the option and not use it than the other way around. The entire article's attitude was that of an authoritarian way of using a Samsung device. There was a lot of mention of less than 1% use air actions. Well, way back when there was less than 1% that had a Note. Should Samsung have scrapped that too?

I agree with this. Whether I use the air gestures, which I don't really, or not, I bought the original Note for the pen, which I use A LOT and for those who either do or don't use all the functions, they should continue to be available.

I think their way of going about it was wrong along with their logic. People didn't use the S-Pen because the S24 was the first time you could really use it.

Glass screen protectors were limited and many went to film/TPU which the pen scratched (myself included) (edit; prior to the S24 U). So their "data of nobody using it" is a bad metric on that merit alone. Then there's the assumption that based on the data removing it means it affects nobody, including those that love(d) it.

The first step should have been wait another generation. In that generation allow user control of the BT functionality by controlling if/when the capacitor charges the pen. Gather data on that.

Lastly, in a less controversial but still not popular decision, make the BT version a purchasable accessory at a reasonable price. Those that don't care about the pen won't be affected. Those that really care will buy it. Those too stubborn will cry and switch but will be a minority.

But that's all oughta, coulda, shoulda.

That said I'm going to say this (again, for those that saw it already). DO NOT go jamming your existing spen into the new phone. The S23 Ultra pen looked identical and went smoothly into the S24 Ultra and for many was semi-permanent without a pricey Samsung repair, a few lucky folks were a le to pry it out. So my don't be that person.

To add to this point: Samsung has already dropped a fair amount of funds/time in programming the feature. Let it go a couple more years and see what happens. That doesn't mean investing more money in upgrades/adding new features, but at the very least letting it ride and fix bugs that pop up.
