Who else is glad that the Xoom is so easy to disassemble?

I was looking around over at http://www.ifixit.com/ and found the Motorola Xoom teardown. I was surprised to see that it gets a rating of 8/10 with 10 being the easiest. The only reason it got an 8 and not a higher score was the number of screws. By contrast, the new iPad has its screen glued to the front of the unit, requiring a heat gun to melt the glue. They say that a person taking an ipad 2 apart should plan on cracking the front glass. While I don't plan on taking my Xoom apart, but it's nice to know that replacing the battery on the Xoom is probably a 15 minute job.

That's a pretty good breakdown. You are right, it looks much easier than the Ipad 2. It looks almost as easy a tearing down a laptop. The system board looks bigger than the Ipad 2 also.

What's interesting is the difference in the way the Xoom is put together compared to the iPad 2. For the iPad 2, the screen must come off to access everything inside, with everything inside mounted to the aluminum back. For the Xoom, everything is mounted to a central magnesium base with the screen mounting to the front of the assembly and the aluminum back enclosing the back of the assembly.
