Who has received the EPIC 4G update?

Didn't they say that it would be across the span of 4 days? It would be nice if they blind sided everyone and hit us all with Froyo...wishful thinking, sorry.

I have been keeping tabs on about half a dozen threads and not a single person has posted anything saying they received the update yet.

Remember, the majority of Epic users do not visit online forums. May take a while to find somebody who got the update.

According to a new post on the Sprint forums, the admin who's been providing all the info 'til now just posted this up:

The maintenance release has been temporarily delayed. I just posted the following over on the MR thread:

We learned this evening that there were administrative issues getting this software loaded to Google's servers. We don't yet have an expected time when this will be available but will update you as soon as possible. Please see the statement below that was sent by the Sprint Product Management team:

We were planning to release an update for your Samsung Epic 4G on 9/30. The file was delivered and on track for distribution but late this afternoon, we learned that an administrative issue prevented Google from releasing the update as we had planned. We are working to resolve the issue and will provide an update as soon as we understand the new delivery schedule.

We would like to clarify that the timing of this update has nothing to do with the 30 day return window that many of you on these blogs have been discussing and that this delay has nothing to do with any last minute changes within the release package itself. The delay is simply due to an administrative issue that we are working to resolve.

stupid reassurance.. simply saying it from Sprint means nothing.. extend the 30 days return window and we'll believe.

You had a full month to exchange the phone if there were issues you couldn't live with. There have been two updates already within the first 30 days. That seems pretty responsive to me. I'm sure they would LOVE to have every issue worked out ASAP but it takes time to gather the info (I promise you they don't spend all day reading forums like you cronic complainers do), then collect a few samples then get with Samsung to develop a fix.

Not every move by Sprint is a conspiracy meant to screw you over.

no crap sherlock.. that 30 day window is obviously a sliding window depending on when you originally purchased. Given that, it's ridiculous for spring to address such a futile notion especially if they won't do anything to back up what they say.

You argue 2 updates in 1 month. That first update was to repair a non-working feature, that frankly should have been working since launch day. So really, I only acknowledge this upcoming release.

Take your device back if you don't like it. It was appears that you are one of those people who can't deal with the problems phones have out the box. My suggestion to you is to wait at least 2 month before buying a device so you can be sure of what your actually getting.

I'd return the device if I felt that Sprint was trying to sell me a lemon.

Gentlemen :)

Nobody on this thread caused any bugs or delays...let's keep it civil.

Sprint has a huge responsibility to get known bugs fixed. Anyone who goes out tomorrow and returns the Epic because they didn't get the problems addressed, well I can't blame you. Sprint and Samsung have a very poor track record with device support, long before the Epic (or even the Moment) came into play. Do what you think is right -- my advice, return to your old phone for a week or two and get your money back instead of jumping on another device right away if you can't deal with the Epic.

OTOH, anyone who is an early adopter needs to be prepared to ride out bugs. The Hero was a rough ride for 6 months. The Moment still isn't fixed. The Evo took a few months before they got it right. The Epic will, too. Sprint and Sammy's track record aside, they have too much to lose if they abandon this one. Sprint arguably has the best two smartphones in existence today, and they need to bend over backwards to keep people thinking that way, but they can't just snap their fingers and fix it all.

you don't get what I'm saying..

My epic is fine.. more than usable for me..

I'm just saying its stupid of Sprint to address forum conspiracy theories without actually backing up what they claim.

I'm glad you're happy with yours. I am too.

I guess I'm just confused why anyone would think it benefits Sprint and Samsung to delay this update, or to have it fall so close to the 30 day return window for users who purchased very early. Is the general thought that they have delayed it so it falls after that 30 day window and those early users will be 'stuck' with their Epics whether or not anything is fixed by the update?

If you get this update in the next couple of days, and it doesn't adequately fix your issues, I promise you someone at some sprint store will exchange your phone, even if you are outside your 30 day window by a few days. You might have to get the manager or even the manager's boss, but someone will try to satisfy you.

The fact that this will be the 3rd update in ~30 days says to me that they are actively trying to fix any bugs and keep their users satisfied.

I forgot about the update they released on launch day. That would indeed bring us up to three updates.

Booggreg, I don't really understand what your trying to say. Adding another 30 days to the window isn't going to fix anything. You are taking a risk by sticking with this device. No one here is trying to tell you any different.

I'd stick with my epic even if 3g was never fixed. Looks like I'll be getting 4g soon and most areas I'm in have wifi. This isn't a deal breaker for me. I understand that not everyone here happens to be in the same situation as I am. The fact that Sprint is getting a update out is icing on the cake.

I can fix the battery issue myself through root thanks to the helpful fixes listed on this site. I'm just waiting around for Sprint to release their fix before I attempt to make me own changes.

Disregard, was a different update, it appears that it wasn't the DI18 update.

I'm in the Bay Area and I got the update today (10/2/10) at 9:10 pm. Unfortunately, I was in an area of poor signal, but I went ahead and tried to update anyways. When the phone finished rebooting, I got an error message saying I had a bad connection and that it would try to update at a later time. However, when I checked the phone under settings, it reads that I have the DI18 update (i.e., Baseband version S:D700.0.5S.DI18 and Build number SPH-D700 ECLAIR.DI18).

So is my phone updated or not?

Update: I ran Speedtest on my phone over 3g and I got Download speed of 554 kbps and upload speed of 744 kbps.

Anyone have a link to what else the DI18 update offers (and how I can confirm these other features)?
