Who is upgrading?

So this is my first full day with the device, so here is my initial thoughts. I traded my G7 for this as my biggest complaint was how bad the battery was on it. I was lucky to get 8 hours of total battery before having to charge it up. So far, this is better, but I've been setting everything up and learning how to use the hand gestures so I'll have to give it a few more days to have any idea. I got the device in red and it's a brilliant color very vibrant it's about the same size as the G7. The display is as beautiful as you would have guessed and there's plenty of onboard storage and it snappy and quick. it was interesting to see that OEM unlock is able to be toggled I thought TMobile would have disabled that, as far as actually unlocking the bootloader I have no interest in doing that just know that you're halfway to being able to do it. Being able to take portrait videos as a really fascinating an interesting feature that I'm really going to use a lot this isn't something that I thought I need it until I saw it and tried it. TMobile did a good job with this phone by not putting in a whole bunch of bloatware and a lot of it was easy to remove the stuff that did install was all T-Mobile apps. LG didn't put a whole bunch of junk into it either which you would think that they would haveso I have to say overall I'm very pleased with what came pre-installed on the device as there wasn't a whole lot to remove but that's at everyone's discretion we all have different ideas of what's bloat and what's not. the build quality of the phone is really good it's not too heavy of a device having no camera bump is really nice and I do have a case on it just because I don't like having a naked phone. the call quality on it is no different than any other phone you wouldn't even know that there's no speaker in the earpiece the the resonating chamber under the glass is quite loud and very very clearI have no issue watching videos listening to music or making phone calls using this handset. you already know the quality of the quad DAC so I don't need to talk about that. setting up the hand gesture was a little bit of a task though it didn't take too long to register my hand however it is a little bit tricky using the hand motion controls as I've never used them before there's obviously a learning curve and it seems a bit fussy right now but that's because I haven't really dialed-in how to use it I will say that it is quite convenient and I do see myself using these hand gestures I don't know how practical they are but they are a convenience factor for sure. I really don't have a whole lot of negative to say about this device of course some of you out there are going to say that it's not as good as a Samsung or something else out there but these are all just everybody's opinions. I will say however if you have a G7 there really isn't any need to upgrade to the G8 unless you want the new software features all in all it's an identical phone to the G7 minus a few aesthetic features. as I stated before I trade it my G7 cuz it was a too good to pass up offer I also have a OnePlus 6t that I will be doing some comparisons with. later tonight or possibly tomorrow when I have an opportunity I'm going to post a little video that I did of an unboxing and a little bit of a side-by-side comparison of the G7 to the G8 and the OnePlus 6t but I'll leave you with a few screenshots nothing amazing just kind of give you an idea of what's going on you can ignore my batteries that usage as I said I'm still setting the phone off so I'm using it far more frequently than I normally would be.

I would recommend giving it a few weeks before worrying about SOT - it will take the battery a little while to adjust to your usage. Plus, we're always playing with new phones a lot when we get them - I'm sure in time, your usage will even out and your SOT will improve!

Oh I know it will. I'm not glued to the battery stats like that. I just use the device and so far I'm really loving it.

I have had my V30 for awhile now and I was thinking about upgrading possibly to the V40 since it's such a good price now. But now that I see the G8 is coming out soon, especially with a price of zero down and only 620 dollars compared to other carriers, I'm quite tempted to pick this up instead. Great specs for the price. I still love that LG has kept their screens the same, unlike Samsung. Not a fan of the extremely curved infinity display. Tried the S9+ recently and just couldn't get into it mostly because of that and battery life issues.

Who else is upgrading to the G8? I used to have the G6 before the V30 and though I enjoy LG's devices and software, the G6 was probably the worst phone I have ever had. Nothing but issues with it from day one. That's why I'm partially hesitant to try another G series device. I could have just had a lemon though.

I'm still loving my V30. So I'll wait to see what the V50 has to offer. My daughter bought the oneplus 6T and while it omits the sd card slot, hifi dac, and wireless charging, it is one sleek, Superfast device. I, however require what they omit and LG offers.

I've currently got a Galaxy S10 (a Snapdragon 855 variant imported from Hong Kong), which is almost perfect but hating the fingerprint reader. An in display reader sounds cool but in reality it's just too unreliable. My last LG phone was the G6 (and had the G3, G4, G5 and V20 before that) but switched to Samsung for the Galaxy S8+ and also had the S9+. Now seriously considering jumping back to LG.

LG is a really great company and I love their phones - I can understand your temptation to go back. Do whatever works best for you! I know that for my next phone, it's going to be either a Pixel, Huawei, or LG phone. It's really tempting to get an LG G8 ThinQ in about eight months.

I am a LG fan, Samsung fan...etc etc. I have a S9 for work stuff... But believe it or not.... For literally all of my regular, personal, daily use... I'm still rocking, loving my LG. V10!!! For me it's the "best thing since sliced bread". The new G8...nah...the V50...nah... While my V10 has a older.. slightly slower processor...that makes absolutely no difference to me. In my opinion... Since the V10...not one phone manufacturer has surpassed the V10....for it's offerings. The incredible stainless steel frame it's built on, and somehow the gorilla glass 4 is, has been non crackable....and...the beyond cool 2nd screen up top gives a person serious "incognito" abilities to do stuff quickly, quietly... almost "spy-like". LG out did itself with the V10....and hasn't made another phone like it since...as well as no other phone maker. My V10 is 3.5 years old....still going strong.... And yes I did have that dreaded boot loop problem once...but now beyond that.... Plus...the back pops off to change a battery...plus the back is a rubbery material that absorbs damage from drops, etc. If LG would only make a now "vintage" re-make of their V10...better processor, more than 4gb of ram...say 12gb....and 1tb storage as a base model...and leave the freaking hot steel framework.... This would sell out in 1 day everywhere around the world. Getting a G8...now ..a V50...a S10-5g....a one plus....nope... I'm rocking, hanging in there with my V10.... IT'S STILL THE BEST PHONE ON THIS PLANET..maybe other planets too!!!... Look up the original V10 page on LG's website... you'll see what I mean.

I got one. Too good to pass up. Free from AT&T. So far i really like it. The 2 year warranty gave me the final push to get it.

The V10 was trash. Battery life was stupid short and had to constantly switch out batteries. Garbage phone.

I've read some issues with the speaker system and sounding muffled. I have seen several youtube videos that indeed the speaker quality isn't particularly loud or rich, especially compared to the G7. That right there is enough to discourage me.

I have been thinking of upgrading my G6 with the G8. I have also thought of the S10, as a second choice, although I am not a Samsung fan. I had a G2, G3, G4, and now a G6 (skipped the G5 and G7). The G8 would be my next logical step. So, I went to my local Verizon store today (a company store, not one of those franchise places) to look at a G8. They did not have one in the store nor had they ever seen one. The woman looked it up on her little pad and said that they sell via order only. Said that I can order one and have it sent either to the store or to my home. Sorry, but I am not going to spend $840 for something that I have never seen. Not sure how many of these LG will be selling if one of the major US carriers does not even carry them in their stores!

AT&T and TMO have them sitting live in their stores. Just go see it there.

Apparently, Verizon is the only carrier selling them at fill retail. Not surprising, though.

Yeah, as much as I am enjoying this phone, $840 is too much. I was happy with my $310 cost. :)

Yes, I can do that or stop at Best Buy. But, I really shouldn't have to. Verizon is turning into the Samsung/Apple store! At any rate, I have time to go look at one. I think that with online only sales, Verizon will be reducing their price sooner than later to get rid of their inventory, and I can pick one up then. I can wait till then, my G6 still works great.

Verizon always touts how amazing they are, but wow are they expensive to use, not to mention offer few if any "perks".

I had a buddy that used to work at Verizon. He very plainly told me that he only sold Apple or Samsung because unless someone came and specifically wanted a different device, those were the only ones he felt he could sell without worrying they'd return them at some point and wreck his pay plan. Essentially those 2 have so much name power behind them that people would buy them and keep them no matter what, but any other device was a crap shoot for him to sell.
