who is waiting on an easier root method?

I wanted to root just for wireless tether but after looking at the instructions I changed my mind. Nothing like the epic 4G where all I did was a single click and getting back to stock was really simple.

Honestly don't think their is an easier way.

So far I have rooted a friends OG EVO once and my own OG EVO like 3 times. One of my friends Thunderbolt, and my gf's Epic 4g.

This latest s-off/root method is BY FAR the easiest imo. It is pretty amazing how quick it is too.

I just did the Thunderbolt a couple days ago and the auto-root method for that seemed to take a good 20-30mins. With this new method for the 3D I had s-off and root within like 5-10 mins tops I think.

How is reading all those instructions easier than doing it on the epic 4G? All you did was download a file and click run lol. It took less than a minute.

Because reading is still fundamental.
cant get any easier than whats posted. Or just stay stock. Last year was much harder with the og evo, unrevoked, and finding htc drivers and such. You seriously cant go wrong with whats posted here or at xda.

So I first found the instructions on XDA, the instructions over there were different than the instructions over here. They have more steps, and tell you to reset to factory before doing it. Then I found these instructions, a little simpler but was confused on which way to go. In the end I went the route of the XDA instructions sort of. I did do a full backup, didn't do a factory reset, and I did the clockwork recovery during the main program being run. Did a ROM backup, and then tried to install the SU program via flash. It gave an error of some kind. However I already had it installed so that was probably why. Well SU works just fine and all my Root applications work GREAT. First reboot after doing everything I was a little scared because it took longer than normal to boot. Was a wee bit freaked. First time boot I had to let it do it's hands free activation and PRL update but then it was mostly back to normal. Had to re enter my gmail password for the mail app. The only interesting thing was when I installed Rom Manager to manage backups (I made one when I was in recovery) it said I first needed to install their recovery. Hmmm, already installed. This was yesterday. Oh well, couldn't install it through the app because the 3D wasn't supported. Well tonight I saw an update for the rom manager app, and sure enough it supports the 3D. It still didn't see that I had the recovery installed, but let me install it through the app go figure. Anyhow, ROM Manager is happy now.

I am a happy camper. This is my first Android phone, I've been on WebOS the last 2 years. Got to say I love it. A Few more hoops to jump through to have full Root access, but in the end I have it. Thank you to everyone who did this.

Oh yeah, I was going to say when I first saw all of the instructions I was thinking the exact same thing as the original poster here. Wait for an easier way. Then I read this thread and how people were saying it was actually pretty easy. Well I took the jump. Guess what, It is pretty easy.

<rant> People like you don't deserve root. Pay for your own damn wifi tethering upfront if you cant follow a list of fairly easy instructions.
The forums are flooded with people like you. And what pisses me off the most is that you refuse to learn anything.

Rooting inst supposed to be for average users, its for devs and more dedicated users who not only want to maximize the features from there devices, but are will to tough it out when things go sour or are "hard"

If you cant copy and paste files or instructions into and sd card or command prompt, how on earth do you feel like you need super user privileges over your phone.

Pay for the sprint hotspot if you need is wifi tether, they get payed to deal with people like you.

only way this will get easier is 1 click root. i did it in about 10 minutes with no problems other then SU zip not flashing but that was just a glitch

This.
I mean this is way easier than the method I had to use with my Her. All I had then was Command prompt and the files I needed. All you have to do with this is plug your phone in really.

I've had an EVO 4G for about a year and rooted it. I've installed several custom ROMS and Kernels. I am by no means an expert. The trouble I had rooting the 3D was that I had forgot some simple things. Like, I thought one held the volume UP button to boot into recovery to check what hboot version I had (it's the volume down button). I also forgot how to turn fast boot off, and how to turn on USB de-bugging. I did them before, but had only done them once, so I forgot how to do it again since I never would use those functions any other time. Also, knowing to install HTC sync and uninstalling it to get the right drivers installed. Those were the issues I had. I spent close to an hour tracking down those things, but the actual turning "S" off and rooting were so simple. I personally thing they should include directions on the things I mentioned, but maybe they do that on purpose. If so, I don't agree, but I can't argue with someone that puts out such a terrific product without charging a cent.

See the problem is there shouldn't be an easier method. Hell, this method should be harder. Rooting your phone, flashing ROMs, kernels, mods, themes, radios and all the other good stuff is not for the feint of heart. It can be very complicating and can easily turn your phone into a nice waste of money. If something as easy as downloading a couple of files and clicking the mouse a couple of times is seriously that *hard*, then with all due respect that someone should NOT be getting involved into stuff. This was my huge problem back with the OG EVO with unrevoked and the single click root methods. You'd have everyone click away and not learn a damn thing and have nothing that even resembles a clue of what they're doing but when **** hits the fan it's like the apocalypse. And even worse is when someone like myself or the other OG Evo 4G experts couldn't help said person not having any idea what they're doing because they took the easy way out, we were the "elitists" (< that word was thrown around way too damn much). When in reality we couldn't help them because they decided to take the easy way. And unfortunately the easy method wasn't open sourced. NOBODY outside of those that created the method had any idea what was going on.. So how could we solve a problem if we don't know what's the root of the problem to begin with? This is the #1 reason I stopped posting in this forum, was because of that. Ask anyone here.. I contributed a lot to the EVO forums here. Hell I was one of the first advisers on Android Central. But after being attacked nonstop I just gave up. And while nobody (thankfully) has gotten personal on the EVO 3D section, i fear with posts already starting like this, it's only a matter of time..

Seriously guys. I mean this in the most honest and humble way... Read.. learn.. educate yourself in the craziness of hacking Android. You'll only be benefiting yourself. It also makes it SO much easier to help other people out when the person asking for help actually knows what adb, signing, partition and other terms mean. Don't look for an easier method. Read read read. Learn what all this stuff means. Ask question, ALL the questions you can possibly imagine. We're here to help.. We were ALL noobs at some point. But one of those questions that should NOT be asked is "is there an easier way to root".

Hello Everyone!

I will admit I am pals with Jerzy and Liquid so this may come off as sounding biased but I will try to give my honest opinion.

The unlock/root method given by the revolution team is, for the average Android abuser, pretty simple. I would go as far as saying its easy. Follow some instructions and voila! PROFIT! You are ready to rock. The only method i could even fathom to being easier is a "slide to unlock" website like those iphone jailbreakers.

"Slide to Unlock" methods and "Click to Root" methods are OK with me on ios devices because with ios having a jailbroken device is not dangerous per se to the device. On Android it is different. Having a rooted Android device can be risky for someone that doesn't know much about computers and technology in general, like the Original Poster of this thread. People that want it to be handed it to them do not need nor deserve root.

On a rooted Android device you can be staring at a blank screen in less than 30 seconds if you do something wrong. So you need to know what you are doing. And to know what you are doing you need to learn, research, and understand whats happening with your phone. And with one clicks and simple programs you honestly do not.

Sometimes people don't need root! Maybe you guys should learn a bit more about technology then come back! ;)

Love,
enzofall

Well stated.

When I first got my Samsung Moment I couldn't wait to get it rooted and use some of the awesome stuff that rooting will give you access to. The only problem was I didn't take the time to learn. I started seeing some more advance stuff, I thought I could pull it off. Long story short, I couldn't. Thanks to the help of some people way smarter than myself I was up and running again after a few days. Eventually something broke on my Moment (not my fault, just a POS phone) and they replaced it with an Intercept. After suffering through that crappy phone I decided it was time to root it and make it useful.

I learned from my mistakes with my first adventure into rooting. I read, and read, and read every single post in the development thread over at SDX. Then I read it again. I learned from mistakes that other people made, I learned as many things as I could. I made myself learn some adb. I read some more. After several weeks I finally felt comfortable enough to try rooting again. I was nervous. I had done my research but still felt I was in over my head. I did it right! This may sound silly, but I felt great that I had learned something new. It felt great to do something myself. I nailed it! After I rooted I made myself install apps through adb just to get used to it. I would spend nights just reading what people had done, and try to learn how to do them myself. I forced myself to get better because I saw too many "noobs" get harassed and I didn't want anyone to yell at me on a forum (sadly grown adults tend to act like morons on forums).

By no means do I consider myself an expert. I never learned this stuff in school. I am still learning, I still make mistakes, but I learn from them.

Take the time to read, read, and then read it again. If you had to fix something on your car would you just go out and start taking crap apart and hope that you could get it back together?

Know your limits.

True I probably misspoke when I said harder. Rather I should have said less time consuming.

And yes I found getting S-off and rooting the EVO 3D faster.

I said I got S-OFF and root within 5-10 mins max.

That includes the time I took to download the programs for S-OFF and Root. The time from me plugging it into the computer to it actually getting S-OFF seemed like a minute or 2.

No clue how in the hell you managed to get root on the Epic 4g if you can't do it for the 3D.

As much as it may look intimidating if youre not tech savvy at all, if youre willing to spend a little time and spend a bit of brain power it is completely learnable and fun when you master everything.

And remember, this is NOT xda. If you have problems you can make a thread or post about it and get an answer without being crucified.

Alas, rooting isnt for everyone. Here's a great editorial by Jerry http://www.androidcentral.com/sometimes-root-isn’t-answer

That editorial is an excellent piece. For the record I am a tech-savvy person with work experience in Unix and Linux and I still get a little nervous when I root. In fact, lol, I had considered not rooting this phone at all because it's so awesome but as you see I couldn't help myself ;) Doing a lot of prep work and planning the steps you are going to take is a must. Just make sure you have all prerequisites, like required software and do lots of reading and research beforehand. Also. I have to agree that this forum is fantastic and if you can communicate your issues clearly and concisely and be patient there are a lot of intelligent helpful people who want and will help you. I enjoy this forum because the vibe is great and everyone understands that we were were all newbies at some point.

FLAME FLAME FLAME ! LMFAO! Just kidding...

Seriously tho guys.. this is one of the EASIEST phones I have worked on. Take the time to read up and try it out.. if you need help just ask. Like the above statements say... we are here to help.

I think of AndroidCentral as a big family. In this case our INTIMATE family, LMAO, would be the HTC EVO 3D forum. I for one have already walked someone thru UNBRICKING their EVO 3D and am more than happy to help anyone that gets stuck in the process.

Obviously this ISNT for everyone but if you are comfortable with the reading than its really not that much harder than reading it. IMO.

Good luck and make sure to keep coming back for support. We truly have a great forum here.

Agree with pretty much what everyone else here is saying. I had my Hero for around 15 months before even finding out what rooting was. I just got so tired of it being so slow I decided to research on the internet to see if there was anything I could do to improve it. Once I heard about rooting I spent hours after work reading up on it and what the positives were and how bad things could get if you did it wrong. I spent 2 to 3 weeks googling everything I could before I decided to take the plunge and go with CM7. I made a word document with all the links that were step by step instructions and also links to the threads that explained fixes for common mistakes. Needless to say I have been balls deep into rooting ever since and I spend a lot of time at work and home researching different things trying to gain more knowledge. So many people people want everything handed to them on a platter and when it doesn't go the way they think it should they get all bent out of shape. I don't mean to keep beating the same drum but some people are just too lazy to put a little time and effort in and it's quite sad.

One thing I loved bout the epic 4G is that it was impossible to mess up since Samsung supplied the ROM and tool to restore back to stock.

I figured things were easier with HTC but now I know its not. Not everyone has so much time to waste at work and home researching rooting a phone.

I understand your point in terms of time, believe me. I am employed full-time, anda wife and mother. However, it is a hobby for me and while I do post on the forums while on the clock I do my research, rooting, and other modding while my husband goes to play basketball or soccer. I guess it just depends on how much you want to learn and how interested you are in the subject. Ideally, I would be doing this all the time. I am fairly knowledgeable but also realize there is so much out there to learn and I want to learn it so much!
