Why am I having issues Connecting to the Microsoft Wireless Display Adapter?

Windows 8.1 app store didnt work for me. Mwda did not connect to my laptop until windows 10 was installed and running the app store with v1.3.8305 firmware upgrade. But my galaxy tablet pro sm t320 with 4.4.2 did not connect either way.

I managed to get around this by updating the Microsoft Wireless Adapter's firmware, by downloading an app to my Surface Pro 4.
The Pro 4 synced, but my Galaxy Note 4 wouldn't. I updated the firmware and it worked first time.

I have a MWDA and use a Note 4. It worked with Android 5.0.1. AT&T pushed 5.1.1 update and it stopped fully connecting.
I went to a Microsoft Store locally and their tech guys didn't have a clue. I called Microsoft and they said "they didn't have a department that supports this product. (MS is never going to gain on Apple in the phone area with this level of support)
I went to an AT&T Device Service Center and they were clueless. I called AT&T and the agent said she would escalate this to the appropriate group.
Probably will never hear from them.
I went to the Microsoft Site that supports this product. It only refers to Microsoft Products like the Surface relative to use of the product.
It doesn't address that this is a Miracast device and that 10's of millions of phones (primarily Samsung) are Miracast certified so anyone like myself could benefit.

MICROSOFT PUBLISHED AN UPDATE TO THE MWDA FIRMWARE ON 11-26-2015. FIRMWARE VERSION 1.3.8305
One needs a Window PC running 8.1 or above to download the update app from Microsoft.
Plug the adapter into the PC USB. Run the app, and it will allow the firmware to update on the adapter. (You can even rename the adapter with the app.)
Following the update Android 5.1.1 will connect again fully with the adapter.
I sure thousands of these adapters are being returned because of such poor support. It COULD BE a great product for Microsoft if they got their head out of the sand.
I hope this helps.

Your post was very helpful. I recently purchased the Microsoft Wireless Display Adapter (MWDA) Version 1.0 (The Original One) and was puzzled as to why it would not mirror the screen on my Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge. After downloading the Microsoft Wireless Display Adapter App from the Windows store on my Windows 10 laptop I was presented with a settings screen that showed a few details. I was given the option to update my firmware and after doing so everything worked great. I only want to use the MWDA for screen mirroring my Android device so I can consume my unlimited data plan. I also tested the adapter with my wife's Samsung Galaxy S6 and that worked great as well when mirroring the display. Be sure to use Quick Connect from your phone's drop-down notification screen if you are using a recent Samsung device. This device uses Mircast technology and Wifi-Direct to wirelessly display screens.Thank you.
