Why are ads appearing on my homescreen and how do I get rid of them

I'm getting ads on my homescreen and every time I press on the ad it brings me to Googles ad thing but it doesn't give the option to not have ads on my home screen

Welcome to the forums. That's probably caused by an app that you downloaded. Next time you see that ad, open your recent apps overview and see what's the latest card in there. There's a chance that you can find the culprit this way.

And the little icon top left of that card? Google as well?

Javier P is right. I've had this nightmare, it caused by a malicious app. It will only get worse over time if you don't find it and uninstall it.

could apps that have access to my home screen possibly be reasons too
