After I synced my contacts with my google account, some of my contacts on my phone were missing. Why did it remove my numbers on my phone?

Were they Google contacts, or were they Phone or SIM contacts? (IOW, are they on Google Contacts?) Anything not on Google Contacts that's on the phone gets removed. Anything on Google Contacts that's not on the phone gets added to the phone. (Which is why all your contacts should be entered as Google contacts.)

Well ... my only complaint is that Google contact should be the default when entering a new contact, instead of Device. Most people don't know the difference or even notice that they're entering a Device contact.

But you can export all your contacts, then go to Google Contacts and import that file. Then merge duplicates (on the website) and sync the phone, turning all your contacts into Google contacts. They just make it difficult (and stupid).

As far as getting something right, they will. You'll probably live to see it. (I'm 72 now, so I probably won't.)
