Why are my downloaded files disappearing?

[Android Central Question]

I got Oreo last night on my Note 8. Since then, when I download a file, I can look at it until the notification is cleared and then it's gone.

I've checked both my internal and sd card storage. I've got hidden files displaying. I've checked using the standard pre-installed app and OI File Manager. I've been through all the emulated files.

What else can I do?

Welcome to Android Central! Just to be certain -- you're looking in the /Download directory with the file manager app?

Do you have any "smart cleaner" features or apps turned on that might be automatically clearing out your Download directory?
