Why are my Galaxy tab files empty in Windows 8?

Hi I have just got a galaxy tab 4. I want move files from it to my windows 8 pc. The problem is when I go into the tab in windows explorer it shows all files are empty but on my girlfriends windows 7 laptop it is fine. Any ideas what the problem is?
