Picture attachments save as text documents

I have a rather odd problem I just noticed. When I save a picture attachment or a screenshot it saves fine and I can see and open it on my phone. If I go to backup my photos to my computer they show up as a thumbnail named RS-(#) but say they are a text document and will not open as a picture. they open in notepad as a bunch of garble-lee-goop. I backup up last a couple weeks ago and all was good. i haven't changed any settings so not sure what is causing this.
Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Welcome to Android Central! How are you backing up the photos to the computer? Are you using the "Import Photos" function of Windows Explorer? That might cause some glitchiness--I would suggest just dragging and dropping the photo to the computer's hard drive, and see if it copies successfully.

That is exactly what I do and have been doing for years. Just that now for some reason when I connect my phone to my computer the saved pics show up with a .txt extension and will not copy or drag and drop.I noticed that this has only started a couple weeks ago and everything before that is fine so looking into any programs i might have installed and causing this. Maybe some scanning software or something since all the pics are labeled as RS-(#) with a number. I'll feed back if \i find anything. Thanks for the response.

Any answer to this question? My Galaxy S3 saves pics as .log files too and I cannot view them anywhere because they come up as a bunch of weird characters.

Okay - so what I found out (FOR ME) is that when the dialogue box popped up on my PC telling me my phone was connected, my phone would have a notification as well. I then had the option to connect as a camera or other USB options. Once I chose camera, the images would show up as .jpg s on my PC.

Hope this helps.
