LG G3 - Texts not recv'd for 12+ hrs

My wife just bought an LG G3, finally upgrading her LG Optimus T. She was having the same issue on her old phone, which is what prompted her to give the thing a decent burial.

The problem is that she's intermittently receiving texts 12 hours or more after they're sent. She's seldom anywhere that there's no signal & her old phone only recently started exhibiting these symptoms.

Her SIM card was upgraded when she got the new phone & I installed and formatted an older Class 10 32 GB SDHC card from my S4 after I replaced it with a 64 GB card.

Our carrier is T-Mobile but I'm not sure whether this is unique to our account though I'm having no problems? Could it have been a glitch on her old SIM that got transferred over? Is this unique to LG products? Just trying to get a handle on this before I have to go out of town again for an extended period of time.

Thanks for the help!!

Re: LG G3 - Texts not recv'd for 12+ hrs

TMobile has been having SMS problems for a while now, and it seems to be getting worse. Give them a little while to figure out what's going on. (It's not something you can just look at, push a few buttons and it works, it can take a week of hair pulling just to get an idea of where to look. That's why system developers don't make minimum wage.)

Try installing Skype on your phones. That completely bypasses TMobile's SMS system. It uses data or wifi, but it'll work if you both have wifi (and it's face to face, not just text, if you want it that way.)

I remember when I had T-Mobile in 2008 with my Nokia N82 and texts always got delayed/lost. Never went back to them.

Re: LG G3 - Texts not recv'd for 12+ hrs

I've got friends on T-Mobile who have a lot of problems not getting texts. Drives me crazy when I don't know if my text got through but I don't want to harass them by texting again, in case they did get it.

Mine are either delayed in receiving or I get the same text twice...

Re: LG G3 - Texts not recv'd for 12+ hrs

Thanks, everyone! It sucks because she relies heavily on her texts. Me not so much. Using another medium isn't really an option because there's no pattern to this. Sometimes she doesn't get my texts but more often it's texts from people she works with who use different carriers.

She works two part-time jobs. One is Deputy Clerk of the municipality where we live & she's a culinary instructor at a cooking school. So some texts might be from the mayor or the village attorney or it might be from the director of the cooking school. With Skype or Whatsapp wouldn't the sender have to use the same app?

I'm looking at some other SMS alternatives but, there again, "tech-friendly" would not be the first term that comes to mind to describe my wife. She can prepare a dinner for 180 people without breaking a sweat but she can't recover from pressing the wrong button on the TV remote. In fact, just mentioning the possibility of having to get used to another SMS app had her balking. Gotta love her.

At least now we know it's the system & not the equipment. The problem is intermittent, too. I have no trouble at all but she sends & receives messages at a conservative ratio of nearly 5:1 to mine. Guess we'll just give it some time to see if TMobile gets its act together. During her rationalization of the issue she did say that it has gotten slightly better with the new phone. Oh well. If she's happy I'm happy.

Thanks again for the assist!!!

Try having her register for Google voice then install the app on her phone. As long as there's data she'll receive the text (or even none she can do SMS forwarding from the settings). Good part is the other people don't have to install any app, they just need to text a different local number (which is selected when you register for google voice)

Re: LG G3 - Texts not recv'd for 12+ hrs

Thanks. If she continues to have the problem we'll look into it.

That seems to be the fundamental difference between men & women. This was even pointed out in "White Men Can't Jump".

Men are literal. They hear about a problem, they want to solve it. Women don't want to solve it. They want the man to empathize as in the whole "glass of water" issue between Rosie Perez & Woody Harrelson. "I don't want you to get me a glass of water, I want you to say, 'I, too, know what it's like to be thirsty'."

My OP is a prime example. Before I published my thread, this was all-encompassing. Since I told her that it's most likely a system issue it's no longer a priority for her.

Go figure.

[DISCLAIMER: Women on AC.com. I'm NOT making a blatantly sexist blanket statement. This has just been my experience with my wife. This is the basis of nearly every argument we have ever had & I blunder into it every single time because I'm too stupid to learn the difference.]
