Why are the app names getting cut off?

That's pretty much normal. Happens on my Pixel 3 XL running 10, and I've seen that on all of my other devices as well.

Most launchers only show a line for the app name in the drawer. Which phone and launcher are you using?

Phone is LG W30. It has stock Android, few days ago i had installed Nova launcher just to check it out. Uninstalled it after few minutes. Do you think Nova launcher has got anything to do with it?

Not much really to add, I'm running Pie and I have two lines on my S10+ with the same gird layout, 5x6. I thought at first it was your grid.

May I ask, did you immediately install Nova? I mean did you notice something else before you installed it and now you are seeing something different? On that note I've heard stories of changes made when third party launchers are installed that stick around after they are uninstalled. I'm not saying this isn't normal for your device I'm just saying you might want to find a guide on how to uninstall Nova the right way.

I found this video... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JfjJQENA0JU

That's pretty much how a stock launcher handles longer names , if you keep Nova launcher you shorten and edit the name or delete it

I vaguely remember that before installing and testing Nova launcher apps with more than one word were displayed in double line i.e words one below the other. After installing Nova launcher I had uninstalled it after a few minutes of testing it. But before uninstalling it I didn't clear its cache or anything. I had directly uninstalled it.

Do you think I should install it once again and uninstall it by the above given method?
Yes.

If you had two lines before and now have one something from Nova stuck around. This may not even be all that stuck around, it's just the thing that you noticed. There could be other things that are now turned off or on our simply changed that you're not noticing. By installing it, giving it all the permissions you did before and uninstalling it correctly it will hopefully return everything to stock.
