Why are you choosing Galaxy S5?

Re: Why are you choosing Galaxy S5 ?

Lack of alternatives. I wasn't thrilled with the S4 I had. I love my nexus 5 but really want a phone with a fingerprint scanner and a better camera. Passcodes are a PITA and the integration with paypal looks really cool. I'll wait to get hands on with the revamped TW.

Re: Why are you choosing Galaxy S5 ?

I'm currently coming up on 2 years with my Verizon Razr Maxx and I'm ready for something new when my contract is up. My brothers have S3's and S4's (I think; they're some sort of Samsung at least) and I was impressed last time I fooled around on them--you don't realize how SLOW your phone is/has gotten until you pick up another one. I don't mind the plastic construction (I don't think it looks that bad, and I'll probably case it anyway) and I guess it's got top-of-the-line specs. I'm also really impressed with what I've seen/read about the camera. The water-resistance is a great touch. I thought that new HTC One might tempt me, but I think I'll probably go Samsung--we'll see after I get a chance to handle both when the S5 is released.

Re: Why are you choosing Galaxy S5 ?

I'm interested in the s5 because I love phones lol. Honestly I'm interested in it because of the camera, fingerprint scanner, dust/water resistance and because I like phones and gadgets lol.

Re: Why are you choosing Galaxy S5 ?

I have a HTC One right now, and I am very very disappointed with the camera. I ended up getting the purple tint issue, and when people ask me to use my phone to take a photo for them, I usually have to ask them for their phone and give them same lame excuse about why I can't take the picture with my phone. Other than that, I love everything else about the HTC One.

The new HTC One has better speakers and a better audio amplifier for their audio jack. There's no denying that the design is much more beautiful as well.

The reasons I'm choosing the SGS5 this time around is because:
1. They have something similar to Blinkfeed now, My Magazine is baked into the UI when swiping to the left.
2. Superior specs, Faster CPU and RAM (DDR3). I believe the GPU is superior as well.
3. Better Camera. From all the sample shots of the new HTC One, I can already see the photos look just as bad as my current HTC One.
4. USB 3.0. My Laptop supports USB 3.0, and it's nice to know I'll have that option of using it for speed and data transfer like the Note 3.
5. Water and dust resistance.
6. Software. The new Touchwiz is a lot more efficient from what I saw at Best Buy. Also, I miss having smart stay and smart rotate.

The rest are bonuses that I can honestly live without. The finger print scanner, heart rate monitor, etc. Other than that, I'm sure I'll be putting my phone in a case. My HTC One is in a case, I hardly notice how beautiful it looks anyways.

Re: Why are you choosing Galaxy S5 ?

Definitely the camera with the .3 second autofocus is huge. And the soft touch back (like the Nexus 7) will be a huge improvement over the slippery S4. And I'm hoping the thumbprint sensor will work well (I'm sure it will work better than the face to unlock I use now). But the biggest reason? The water resistance.

In the summer, I'll be able to take pictures IN the pool and even underwater (up to 1 meter ;-))

In the mornings, I'll be able to brush my teeth and browse Android Central at the same time, and rinse off the toothpaste drips after I'm done. I'll be able to use the S5 like a shower radio and listen to podcasts while I'm getting squeaky clean.

I can whip out the phone in the rain. My number one phobia whenever I'm caught in the rain without an umbrella is damaging my phone.

I can put the S5 down next to cups of water. Sheez, I can put it down IN cups of water.

The water resistance is going to be HUGE.

I might be the only person, but I love the home button. CALL ME CRAZY! :)

I like it as well. Everyone likes to complain but I like having a physical button to use to wake the device if needed. Plus the camera+ water resistant is going to be a big draw for many. Plus the smaller overall size compared to the one makes it more appealing to me as well. Phones are large enough as it is, no need to have en excessively large sized phone for the screen size.

What I like in Samsung devices in general is the ability to wake up the phone using both side button or home button.
They do same on WP too.

The physical home button is something I've always appreciated about samsung devices.

First time poster here. Discovered this site and forum looking for random Samsung Galaxy s5.

Anyways. I currently have the HTC Vivid/Raider. I got it in April in 2012, right before the s3 launch. The vivid is a POS. It is slow. It lags. The battery life is HORRIBLE. For the past year, it looses 1% a minute while I am browsing the net while on 50% brightness. I have to charge at least once a day. It is even worse when watching videos, listening to music or using the GPS. I dont even play games because of the battery. This past summer, I had the mother board replaced via a squaretrade repair. That made no difference.

My contract is up on April 8th. So through AT&T next program, I pre ordered the white phone with $0 down and $25 a month.

I am getting the s5 because of the following:

1. It is water and dust resistant
2. It looks to have a awesome battery life.
3. The ultra-battery saver mode is awesome
4. The speed of the phone. It looks every smooth in the videos I have seen
5. The 16 MP camera with the fast auto focus and the other camera features
6. The design looks pretty good.
7. The 4k video seems pretty cool
8. I cant complain having the Fingerprint scanner/ More security, the merrier.
9. The download booster will be a big help
10. Super Bright Mode and super dim mode. Extremely convenient
11. USB 3.0. This is a plus

Strongly leaning towards the S5. Currently have an S3 so this would be a sizeable and worthy upgrade. I'm also considering the new One and the N5 but both fall short in crucial categories.

1) The camera is simply superior to any other Android cam.
2) The GS3 has been an amazing phone. I trust Samsung.
3) Water resistance is a big deal.
4) The removable battery is a godsend - outlets are still surprisingly hard to come by in the United States.
5) The download booster looks like an amazing feature that will get me through some shoddy connections (Sprint 4g is still by no means perfect)
6) Ultra Power Saving Mode is also going to be a godsend.
7) Samsung simply has so much more support from the third party community than any of its rivals. I know that accessories will be compatible with the GS5 because the Galaxy S line is so popular.
8) Longevity. I sign two year contracts and I stick to them. My GS3 still holds up perfectly next to any next-gen phone and has the specs to be compatible with even the most rigorous of updates. I know the GS5 will last me two years without being left out in the cold (as a former BlackBerry and WP user abandoned by RIM and Microsoft, I know how that feels all too well)

I had the Captivate and currently have the GS3. I've contemplated on getting the iPhone and other various HTC phones but something just didn't feel right. What keeps me away from the iPhone is the screen size and ios. I always loved the build quality of HTCs but I find them lacking in their cameras and I'm not a fan of Sense.

My main reasons for getting the S5:

1. Better camera with 16MP, HDR preview and post editing focus
2. Water and dust resistance
3. More selection for cases
4. Bigger and higher resolution screen compared to my current S3
5. Download booster sometimes my WiFi is slow and I often switch to LTE
6. Fingerprint scanner
7. LED notification light
8. Home button
9. Gesture features
10. Touchwiz (Lots of people can't stand it but I love it!)
11. Swappable battery covers (I would like an electric blue S5 and since the bezels are black, I can easily order a blue cover. I can't stand carrier branding so I got an OEM one for my S3)
12. Usually faster updates (depending on your carrier)

I can see that you're not the only person here who loves the home button, but I'm one of those who hates it. I like the Nexus layout with the virtual buttons the best, with the capacitive buttons (like found on the original US Galaxy Note) a close second. If it weren't for other Samsung features, I would have left them because of the physical home button a couple of years ago.

Re: Why are you choosing Galaxy S5 ?

Still haven't made the decision to upgrade or stay with the s4 for a while longer...this may be the first year in quite a long time that I'm not spending money on launch day! (I upgrade every year and have an upgrade burning a hole in my pocket)
When I do upgrade it will most likely be an S5, but an, N4 or one of the new LGs is not out of the question...
We have had the full line of Galaxy s and now Note devices and have been extremely happy with them! There is MUCH more to "quality Build" then pretty looks! Trust is a big factor!
The quick focus camera has to be right at the top of the want list! How many pics do you miss or are blurry because your subject moved?!
Improved low light performance...the only drawback of the S4 camera
Yes, I do love the home button and I don't need a double tap or special swipe to wake my phone!
Yes, stock Android is nice and clean but I find myself going back to Touchwiz for the features! Why would I want to give that up?
The S4 battery life is excellent and the S5 should be even better!
Replaceable battery...this should be an issue for anyone that is keeping your phone for a full 2 year term! All batteries wear out!
Water proof /dust proof is something ALL phones should have...period!
Fingerprint scanner, if it works well, could be a biggy! If this actually can replace pin codes/passwords and be used with 3rd party apps it will change everything securing your device, not just Samsung but all companies will adopt it!
Innovation! Samsung packs more new features into their devices than anyone in the industry and let's the customer decide if they want to use them or not...not all ideas are useful to all, but that's how we find out...not by not trying at all!
The HTC One/M8/ NEW One or what ever it is being called today is just not an option! HTC repeatedly burned the quality bridge with me in the past and I see nothing today to change my mind! (Please tell me there is more to this phone then pretty looks and Zoes) No matter how much the tech media is determined to save them from bankruptcy!

Cheers
