Why aren't Facebook notifications on my phone clearing when viewed on the computer?

Facebook notifications on phone not clearing when viewed on computer

Hi all,

I have a oneplus two running Lollipop with Oxygen OS. When I receive a message via facebook messenger app, I get a notification on my phone and the normal icon in the notification tray. However, when I view the message on my computer via facebook.com (as I do this at work), the messenger notification on my phone does not clear and it still lists the messages as unread until you go through and manually clear them.

This is a fairly minor problem, but it is a bit annoying. It wasn't a problem on my previous phone, a Sony xperia, where the phone notifications would be cleared instantly when they were read on facebook.com.

This issue only seems to be a problem for messenger app - when a notification comes through on facebook app and it is viewed on facebook.com the notification is cleared. Also for my work email app when I view an email on my computer it is cleared in the phone. So perhaps it is a problem with the messenger app syncing.
