Why aren't I receiving push notifications from Whatsapp and FB Messenger?

Hi everyone.

Any one of you know why I don't receive push notifications from whatsapp or fb messenger with the mobile data enable? I don't want to enable the auto sync option because obviously I want to reduce the battery usage and my Internet, but I don't want to miss a message from somebody on those apps. :'(

I'm not sure if these apps 'listen' to the Sync state of your phone (the theory is that all apps SHOULD, but the reality is that most don't), but if they do, I'm afraid that turning on SYNC is the only way to go.

Do you get notified when on WiFi? If the switch were the culprit, it wouldn't work on WiFi either.
