After google photos backup my photos, I have the choice to free up 6.22 GB. When I click on the button to delete these photos nothing happens. If I click on the button several times I get kicked out of the app. This is the first time that I have issues like this. I don't know if its the Google Photo app it self or my new S21 Ultra has the problem. I uninstalled the Google Photo app like 5 times, I reset my phone twice and I made sure all the app were up to date. Does anyone knows how to fix this problem?

Welcome to Android Central! Try clearing the app cache/data for Google Photos in Settings>Apps.

I moved this to the S21 forum for more specific traffic.

I haven't had any problem with Google Photos on the S21 Ultra. Have you given the app all the permissions it needs?

Sorry, I don't know then. I just tried it on my phone; it went through and freed up 1.62 GB for me.

Yes, I went to the phone's settings, Apps, Photos...I made sure all the permissions were allowed. But I still have this issue. I know all my photos are backed up because when I go on my desktop I can see all my phone pics. On the app I can not free up the available space.

No, when I click on the blue bar nothing happens. If I click on the blue bar multiple times I get kicked out of the google photo app.

So after clearing the app cache/data, it still won't let you free up space?

I would try the data clear and then force stop, clearing data automatically clears cache

Did you ever get this sorted?

I have 144gb to clear and Google support are being useless. My phones struggling to function 😫

Welcome to Android Central! Do you also have an S21? You've already tried the things suggested in this thread, I assume?

If all else fails, you can always use your file manager app to navigate to the /DCIM/Camera directory and manually delete the photos there, since you know they're already backed up to Google Photos.

I have had no luck with the same issue. This is so frustrating!

Hi there, im having the same issue. 40gb to free up and my phone is full. Everything is backed up. Permissions on. Cache and data cleared. Reinstalled app. Now instead of saying there's 40gb to free up it says there is nothing to free up even though the synced photos are still on my device.
I deleted 1 photo from Gallery to see if it would stay backed up in google photos but it did not. It reflects anything I delete. How do you manually delete from device without accidentally deleting from the sync/ backup?

Welcome to Android Central! Just to clarify, are you using the Google Photos app, and its Free Up Space option, or are you using the Samsung Gallery app?
