Why can I not get it to factory reset.

I have done a factory reset for my new Time2 android tablet as it got stuck on 'android' logo.it told me that it was erasing files and then is now supposedly encrypting but has been going for hours and not changed - still says has same amount of time to go and then goes back to start up and does it all over again.
Can I use the reset hole on the side of the machine?

Welcome to Android Central! Did you actually encrypt the tablet? If not, it shouldn't be encrypting files. If it's been hours, something has frozen. You could try pressing and holding the Power button for 20-30 seconds to see if it forces a shutdown. If that doesn't work, try using a paper clip to press and hold the pinhole reset button for 15-20 seconds.

If this keeps happening, then it's likely you're dealing with a hardware or firmware defect, which is not that unusual for off-brand devices like that. Contact the manufacturer for warranty repair, or return it to the store if you can.
