Why can I send MMS but not SMS?

I have a Samsung Note 9, Model #SM-N960U1. I'm with Tracfone and have an ATT SIM card. So, the phone is working great, I can make phone calls, I can send MMS, I can go online, everything is working fine, except for the fact that I can't send or receive SMS... It's really strange, a google search turned up people unable to send text but no pictures, but I couldn't find anything about my backwards situation. I'd appreciate any kind of help on this situation.

Have you in the first instance spoken to your carrier about it?

Unless you have turned it off deep in the menu, it's a carrier setting. Have you confirmed this in safe mode or with a 3rd party app? You will need to call your provider if persists.

Sounds to me like an incorrect APN setting for your carrier.

I just went through the same. Spent 10 hours on line with my provider. After numerous apn, reconfiguring my phone and their end all it was is what I first suspected a fault sim card
