Why can iphones send longer video messages?

So I have a couple friends that have iphones and they can send me videos that are a minute or longer over text. How can they do this? The longest video I can send is 30 seconds on my DROID Razr. Is there any app or way I can send videos longer than 30 seconds like they can?

I don't have much experience with this, but when my wife texts me videos from her iPhone, they're ridiculously small and pixelated, so I'm guessing iPhones automatically downscale the videos A LOT before sending them. Not sure how much they're downsized with the Razr--perhaps it's not enough to go beyond 30 seconds, but I'll be the video quality is better.

Maybe it's just me but I'd rather like that than just 30 seconds. Or least have an app that can do that. Do you know of any app that can downscale a video like that?

They come up full res for me. Don't know the problem you are having.

I'm on Sprint and see pixilated videos when my wife sends videos via text as well.

I know on my HTC One you can change they size of the video that is recorded so that you can send a longer video via MMS.

Went to camera; settings; video quality; and selected MMS

It's not the length that's limited, but instead the file size. I'm guessing you're shooting higher res video. Lower the resolution of what you're shooting, and you can squeeze more length into a smaller file size.

IPhones send MMS via the closed, proprietary iMessage system which allows full sized video. Android sends MMS via the carrier, which in the us at least, restrict file size.

No. The iPhone sends via MMS as well. You really don't know iPhones if you say that. My dad sends me MMS's to my N4 no problem. It depends on the carrier and it seems like my carriers are superior in this aspect.

iPhones send via iMessage if the recipient is another iOS/Mac user that also has iMessage. Otherwise it's sent via normal MMS.

I certainly don't know iPhones very well, but from what I've read, it seems that iPhones use iMessage to send text and media messages, but if the recipient isn't an iPhone user, then iMessage will send the message via MMS, and as we've already discussed, MMS quality depends on the carrier.

Lol our carriers are really good about high quality MMS don't blame Apple for your carriers limitations. This is directed towards other people, not you B.Diddy

download "whats app" you can download extremely long videos but the qaulity gets diminished a little. both parties have to be using whats app. but you don't need usernames or nothing like that as long as you download it everyone on your phone list will also automatially be on your buddy list... its also great for group chats

When sending a video on an iPhone you can choose from full quality, medium, or low.

With the free app 'Telegram' you can send/receive videos up to 1 Gigabyte in file size. No compression.
That's simpler and quicker than first having to upload the video to a cloud, and then sending its download link to your recipient.
Most other IM apps can only send videos of max. 90 seconds or 10 MB file size. Whichever comes first. Some, like WhatsApp, compress videos to lower res/size/quality.
