Why can't I access my phone's internal storage?

[Android Central Question]

Hi
I have a Hauwei Y5 prime 2018.Phone still in good condition. Anyways I have an internal storage issue only have 500 and something mbs free out of 16 GB onboard memory. I tried deleting things from internal storage in my file manager but there was nothing to delete, files to small, I then checked my storage manager and discovered that the reason why I can't delete anything is because I can't gain access to my internal storage. Shocking I know . I switched between default storage locations don't know if that's the reason but then again it can't be. Please can you Help me??? I'm really lost.
