Why can't I answer an incoming call on my Note 10+ when I have an app open?

If I have no app open it works fine.
If I have an app open the phone rings and pops up as normal but when I answer it it's dead, the call goes to voicemail for the caller and I get nothing but dead air.
My carrier is Verizon and I bought the phone from Verizon a week ago but it has been doing this since I bought it.
I have not changed any settings yet.

Try in phone app settings by going three dots in the upper right hand corner and tap setting then a roll down to pop up and toggle on , see if that works

The phone is a week old - ask Verizon to replace it.

Welcome to Android Central! Do you have a Game Launcher or Game Tools app or feature? If so, make sure it's not set to prevent interruptions from calls.
