Why can't I connect Android Auto?

My 2017 Lincoln MKZ has been using Car Play with Google Maps on my iPhone for 16 months. No problems. I upgraded from iPhone 6 to Pixel 2. I cannot connect with Android Auto. I have downloaded the app to my phone. I have paired the phone with the car controls, and I have made calls. I can see Glympse. I have downloaded Contacts. I can link to music on the Pixel 2. But I can't find the way to use Android Auto or Google Maps for Navigation. Can anyone help me?
