Android Central Question

I recently received a OnePlus Watch. I turned it on and it told me to either scan a barcode from the HeyTap Health App or manually pair using bluetooth on my phone. I use a OnePlus 5T. I tried pairing manually and the watch prompted the pairing code which I accepted on my phone. My phone says that it is connected to the watch however the watch goes back to the initial screen where it asks me to scan a barcode. After this I am unable to do anything on the watch.

Welcome to Android Central. I've had a couple of cheap smart watches, not saying that the OnePlus watch is cheap just saying my only experience has been with lessor devices, and with those devices they required an app. It sounds like the OnePlus may also require an app, the HeyTap Health app. Again for me, without these apps the watches I had would not notify of notifications, calls or update my calendar and I'm pretty sure it wouldn't even keep time... I may be mistaken on that but for sure nothing else worked.

Do you have the app?

Have you tried connecting by using the QR code provided by the app?

What does the user's manual say about connecting manually or without the app?

Have you tried pairing it with another device? A friend or SO's device, just to test the results vs what you're seeing?

To answer your questions:

Yes, I downloaded the app.

I explored the app in its entirety but there was nowhere to scan the QR code. This is the reason I tried pairing it manually.

The user manual says the same thing as the watch. I tried both methods but I am unable to pair.

I tried to pair it with my friend's device as well but still no luck.

This is super frustrating as there is no way to get past the pairing screen on the watch.

When you paired, were their pairing acceptance requests on both the phone and watch screens? If so, did you also make sure to tap the accept button on the watch?

I followed your link and the only thing I can think is the watch is from China for the Chinese market and you are in Hong Kong, which if memory and understanding serves is now considered a Chinese colony but doesn't play by all of China's rules. Yet. I'm wondering if that is the disconnect?

Is your phone also for the Chinese market? I ask because a while back I watched a video where a popular Samsung device was tore down to display its internal workings and while it was still branded as 5G had no 5G antenna and a few other things were noted because it was for a different market. I have also seen several videos of people outside of China buying Chinese devices for availability and price only to find that they don't play nice with carriers and devices outside of that market. With Hong Kong being a Chinese colony but not playing by of the Chinese rules compatibility comes to mind first and foremost.

Although this does bring up the question of your phone not connecting to your friend's device. What was that device? What phone does your friend have that connects to that device? Are either or both from or for the Chinese market?

I looked at that a bit more -- HeyTap is intended for OPPO wearables, not necessarily OnePlus. I realize that OnePlus is a subsidiary, but that doesn't mean that HeyTap is specifically intended for the OnePlus Watch.

Are you forced to connect to HeyTap, or can you skip that? Can you install the OnePlus Health app instead?

Welcome to the forums. Is your 5T running Hydrogen or Oxygen? The OnePlus Watch is available only in China so far and it's possible that there's still some incompatibility with the Global builds.
